Following the news on the stimulus package, the enthusiasm I had after Barack Obama was elected and sworn in has declined precipitously.  I thought that part of the reason that Obama was elected is that America wanted an intelligent person in charge of the country.  However, the Republicans and the national news media (who still book about a third more GOPers on news and talk shows, despite the 2008 election results) don't want intelligent discourse.

Instead, all I see, hear, and read is a procession of stultifying ignorance.  For example, today Senator John McCain was on the Senate floor critiquing provisions of the bill.  McCain expressed scorn for a $50 million grant to the National Endowment for the Arts.  He said he didn't understand how this would create jobs.

Geez, John, I dunno...maybe by giving money to artists, who aren't exactly rolling in dough, who will create artistic works while also buying consumer goods that will help other sectors of the economy.  You see, if an artist can make a living making art, she's not unemployed and competing with the millions of other Americans who, thanks to your party's policies, are now looking for work.  If anyone might realize this, it should be you (and Senator Byrd), since you were around when FDR did the same thing and it worked.

You can find dozens upon dozens of examples of this shit-for-brains thinking on the GOP side of the aisle.  I'm not saying that every provision in the bill is perfect.  But most of the attacks are directed towards things that will create jobs.

Yet they want tax breaks.  Because that worked so well the last eight years.  It's depressingn to read about the $100 billion+ cuts made by so-called "moderates" which tilt towards those who are better off, instead of the poor and lower class, who will do a much better job of helping our economy get better.

The Republicans pretty much only think in terms of politics as opposed to solutions.  And the Democrats are going to allow them to damage the best likely solution to the biggest crisis of my generation.

Here in Arizona, we have a deficit created by tax cuts the Republicans gave. Well, the tax cuts helped put us in the deficit as far as I understand. Plus, our former governor Napolitano had a budget laid out that wouldn't have made cuts necessary to things like education or the Department of Economic Security but the State Treasurer thought it would be cute to play games with our governor. So, what did they do? The Republicans still were touting the need to borrow money to solve the deficit even though Arizona would be getting federal aid money. Plus, they cut something like 100 million dollars from the Department of Economic Aid in a time when that is downright moronic, or as I would say, criminal. And cut 141 million dollars from public education even though we are bottom of the barrell when it comes to how much we give to the education of our kids.
The Great State of Arizona? Ha!!! Far from it!!!!

I guess that is the beauty of this country. You have an intelligent President and some who disagree with him. I am confuse as majority of both chambers the house and senate are democrats. It shouldn't be a problem passing the bill. How come instead of selling the plan Obama was on the defensive side. He keeps on repeating this is not a perfect plan as you mentioned also. That is the problem. You are warning people that this plan may or may not be the solution. Nothing is perfect this is given however don't use that if in the event the plan failed you are free from guilt and you will be quick to say I warned you. You are giving people to dissect the plan even more regardless they are stupid.

As for Media can be hard to anybody that is part of their job.

What happen to his magic?

My dad was harping all along once Obama won the election that the Republidiots would stand in the way. And as far this being the biggest crisis of your generation, I am pretty much just starting out in life and I get handed this piece of shit economy and government. I have never in my life ever said that I have no faith nor trust in government. But the fact that no matter what happens or who is president the Republicans are still allowed to frame the debate means I have no faith just anger and hatred coursing threw my veins. I seriously feel there is no hope and the is the worst feeling ever.
