This really shouldn't be out of the ordinary for me; after all, I read an average of 60 books a year (sometimes more, sometimes less). But though the books I read are occasionally borrowed, 99.5% of the books I read I own. I haven't had a library card in 20-25 years!
The Point Richmond Library has been open for about a year now, after having been closed for over 4 years. During the time it was closed, I mourned its loss (or at least its inactivity). Since it's reopened, I have not had much opportunity to visit due to its limited hours of operation. Tonight I made sure to go, at long last, after work.
It's even smaller than it looks from the outside. It's quaint. The total book area is less than the square footage of my apartment, and I arguably have more books than they do.
(Kevin, Evelyn and Freddie can feel free to make any snide comment they wish at this point.) :)
Browsing the shelves at random I found several tomes I'd like to read (Martin Gilbert's The Holocaust, TS Eliot, Barbara Kingsolver, David McCullough's John Adams biography, Asimov's New Guide To Science), many volumes I own, and THE book I've been wanting to go to the library to get (having curtailed my book buying, believe it or not): Christopher Hitchens' God Is Not Great. I also checked out Billions and Billions by Carl Sagan. And I found a few books that were of sufficient age that I had to take them off the shelf and... smell them. :)
The best news? They're hoping to expand their hours soon. (5:00 T-Th, closed F/S/S leaves Monday night - closing at 7:00 - currently my only option at this branch, which is conveniently located down the street from me. Across from Starbucks.)
This just means I'm going to live even longer, because I don't plan on dying until I've read everything I have or want.
