Current mood: nostalgic
Oregon Youth Camp has always been a part of my life. I can attribute those few short days every summer as a kid to many of the leaps and bounds I made as a person, it was a shelter from the social nonacceptance I felt from my classmates the rest of the year. Throughout the years God had many surprises that awaited me when I would finally step out of the car at Silver Creek Falls or Eagle Fern. OYC has been ministering to youth for over forty years now so depending on which generation you are you most likely remember different directors and staff...in fact most of the staff that I remember could have been your fellow campers but no matter. My happy place will always be the awesome, spirit-filled, church services that would cap each day...song service in full swing with Tammy at the keyboard. Steve and Brad behind her on guitars, Nike on bass and TonyD on Drums. Brian Paige and Anthony Ogle, our fearless leaders, worshipping with hands raised high never standing still for more than two seconds. Of course than there were our counselors Kim and Richard, Debbie, Craig, Steve D, Greg and Richard W. They may not have all counseled the same year but they were all there at one time or another, last but not least our deans Darryl and Sherri. Fast forward to the altar call, everyone face planted before God...many slain out in the Spirit and other's receiving blessings and healings. Finally after it was all said and done Bro. Woodward sweeping up after us. This is my happy place, a place filled with friends but most importantly the Spirit of God...I return to this place often to visit and to remember. Hanging out with the musicians during free time as they sat around and jammed on their instruments or standing outside somewhere listening to the sound of Tammy's keyboard as she prepared the evening music. Of course there will always be the Taco Bell/smore song with Steve Willis and TonyD...those were good years so here's to OYC 1997-2002...I miss all of you who were there!
Mike:)
