Sometimes I think I was born about 70 years too late. Sometimes I wonder how the world has progressed the way it has. It seems that times were once simplier, cities and towns smaller, communities closer, and people friendlier. Even though I live in a small town now (and why is 25,000 population small?), it still is too large for me. Why is it so hard to have good neighbors? Or if they are decent people, why is it so difficult to get to know them? Everyone has such busy lifestyles: kids, school, work, obligations, health, fitness, and a slew of other things. Nothing is in walking distance anymore, and the sky is polluted by our means of transportation. Why are families so disfunctional? Why is there so much crime? I would have been happy to travel by horse, have a community where the church and school is the same place, and have wholesome friends and family get-togethers instead of places available now. I yearn for simplier times, for days that I don’t have to bust my behind working, and limiting my enjoyment of life to just my days off. And just look what we have done to the envirnoment. Anyone ever wonder if the pollutants we put in our bodies, air, and water are what causes crime and disease to be on the rise. With all the fast food, it is difficult to be nutrition minded, and without proper nutrition people feel bad. Anxiety, depression, lack of sleep and other common problems can be directly related to unhealthy lifestyles and in turn causes us to make bad decisions. Last week a woman threw her two children off an overpass. It makes you wonder if she might have been different with proper sleep, nutrition, and without the abuse of prescription and non-prescription drugs. It seems that no one really cares about others anymore, including family. I know that my family pretty much has abandoned me. Everyone is just too busy to do what is right, and would rather do what is easy. Yes, I could have easily lived in other times. I would rather be tending a garden to put food on the table, reaping the benefit of such hard work. Because now, I work so hard, and barely have anything to show for it. My paychecks go primarily to medical bills (for useless procedures that didn’t work) and car repairs (still paying for a vehicle that is long gone). My joys are so simple: my home life, horses and other pets, and writing. Do you ever feel a sense of nostalgia by watching Little House on the Prairie, and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman? I know I do. Wish I was there, too!
