Current mood:  busy

Hello again,

Thanks for stopping by. I made this blog a place for me to connect and answer all of your questions. I started this a long time ago and I had so much fun reading and answering the random and insiteful questions you guys had about me, but yet again I got caught up in my life, and became distant from my friends and future potential friends here on myspace. I want to apologize, I haven't had the time to answer everybody's messages and comments. It means so much to me that you take the time to reach out to me, I don't even know how to thank you for that. I wish I could call you guys on the phone and just thank you and talk about guitar junk or whatever for hours on end. But I can't even get around to writing you back on here. Just know, I will evenutally, so thank you for being patient.
This blog is just a little bit more convenient for me right now and I will try to update this as often as possible.

Anways! I really look forward to reading some creative questions and having you get to know me better...or worse ;)

PEACE,

ASH SOULAR

The comment above was during a time I had started a band and was planning to record with them. But I am on my own as of now 4-28-09. I have decided what I want and what I need to do. Simply, I want to play my music. It's a simple goal but it's been anything but, trying to find others who want to join aboard. I have given up on trying to find musicians to start or join a band with. It's the same thing everytime, I let them know from the very beginning that my goal with music and with them is to play my written stuff. They agree and promise me they'll do it but once it comes down to practicing and booking and playing, I'm only doing their music and spending hours and hours perfecting their songs. This is not neccesarily a bad thing but it is not what I wanted. I just feel like none of them have really taken my goal seriously and just wanted me to be another addition to their band and songs. I know many musicians would love to be part of a band working on and playing other people's music, but for me it's just so personal a passion to play the music I have written for the world. So right now I'm solo. But of course I will always be down to jam with anyone or any band, I love that so much. But when it comes down to commiting myself to a band I want it to be my own.

I have decided to update this question because I am not officially in a band anymore. I am just going solo for now. I took time off from college without an actual set time to go back. I want to pursue music right now with all my time and effort.

Hi Ash, I'd like to collaborate with you on writing songs and send the Demos out to people I know in the Music industry. I have a good friend who is the lead singer for a rock band that has sold over 100 million albums. I'm not kidding. We can do this on the net, and later in person. I saw your stuff on youtube, and I truly think you have great talent that can grow. We can try and write songs for my friends bands style in mind for them to consider recording, and/or write stuff that they might forward to people they think would like it in the industry. What I really want to do later, is warm up for them on tour, as they play full on Arena Rock, and even jam with them...but first, I'd like to send them some demo work of course.

I started music training when I was 3 years old, and was a music major at the University. I studied classical Opera singing. However, I sing and play rock and pop stuff. I know some good producers, and can also submit demos to one of the producers of Led Zep, who I met at the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. He asked me to send him some stuff, and if you and I come up with some good material I'd be more than happy to do so. Rock on Ash! let me know. Chris

Well actually all of my other mailbox's and e-mails aren't easier for me answer. It's a matter of having the time. But don't worry I'll keep you informed on me on here. Oh, I don't know who Kris Sobanski is, but I wanted to do this to make it easier and less time consuming for me to actually answer peoples questions. And yes I do remember saying I'll marry you! ;P

Thanks Jerry!
My equitment as far as guitars and amps go are, I play a Copely McKorkle Signature gold top Les Paul lp, and a Gibson Les Paul Standard. I play thyrough a Marshall MG100DFX. The effects I use occasionally are a Dunlop wah Craybaby, I also use a talk box. That's about it my set up is simple and effective.

My original music is going to have vocals. I don't know how to classify it mostly because I fuse so many styles into it, in the process of finding my own sound. But I would say it's more Alternative.

Thank you. My first guitar was not a Les Paul. It was a Jay Turser strat copy that came with a case that had a built in amp. All for 100 dollars! I learnt everything on that guitar but as soon as I saw Slash ripping on a Les Paul I knew that's the guitar I wanted. Not even knowing what it sounded like or felt like, I'm just glad I decided to make that decision about a guitar that sounds great haha.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the whole 1-10 rating scale? Do you prefer other rating scales, e.g. 1-5 scale, 4 star scale a la Star-Search, 100% scale?

Ok on a 1-10 scale I would rate the 1-10 scale a 5. Because there are two many numbers in between 1 and 10 so it leaves room for vagueness. I'm all about the 1-5 sclae, thats what I'm talking about!

I don't look for anything. I've knoticed for me that when me and somebody click we just click and that's where the attraction starts. Of course I can say I like the tall dark and handsom stud, but really looks only go so far and the past guys I have ever really liked, I didn't even care about their looks. I like guys who challenge me, Someone who dosen't just humor me but will tell me when they think I'm wrong, who will argue with me but still be pleasant about it. I like confident people who take the initiative because I am really shy. So really I don't have a type it just kinda happens and I can't explain or tell you why I like who I like sometimes.

want to hold your hands trough the darkness
i want to hold you trough the bad times and the good
i want to love you forever

i want to catch you if you fall
i want to answer if you call

want to love you

want to be your cover if your cold
want to be your shelter if you need a place to stay
but it does not matter what i say

cause you are so vain

does not matter if i said i loved you i still be another face in the crowd
does not matter if i died for you i just be another lost soul

does not matter matter if i gave you everything i just be another fling

it would matter if i had connections instead of affection
it would matter if i was famous
it would matter if i was richest man person in the nieghborhood
it would matter if i was an actor who does not love you like he should

Just for kicks, which musicians would you choose if you had to assemble and all-star 'Megaband', so to speak? Surely it's a safe bet that Slash would be your pick for lead guitar, who else would be composing your band? (Lead vocals, rythm guitar, bass guitar, drums...and even keyboards if you admire someone on the keys)

Good one! Hmmm, that's hard, Ok for a singer I would want Steven Tyler. He can sing anything and make it sound rockin. For a secong guitarist I would want Malcome Young from AC/DC. No one lays down the rhythm like that guy. For a drummer, I would want the one the only John Bohnam, may he RIP. For keys, I want the guy from Santana's old stuff. Not sure his name, but I think he went on to play in Jouney. For bass give me Flea. Nuff said there. And lastly for Lead Guitarist, Well, ME OF COURSE! I'm not passing up a chance to play with this megaband! haha

When I meet someone who is a guitarist, I usually ask them to show me their hands, and I hold up my tiny hands to their big monstro-hands...since you are long distance I'll just have to ask you, how big are your hands?

PS I did learn that Lori Lundstruth also has tiny hands, and she sure does rock, so I feel encouraged:)

I have really skinny long fingers. But it doesn't matter how big your hands are when trying to play guitar, you just have to come up with a different way to get around the neck. But it's totally possible to be a great guitarist wih small hands!

Have you considered using valve amps rather than solid state amps?

Yes I have! I think that real tube amps do actually give your tone more of a push. But, the solid state amps they make now a days come pretty damn close to emulating that of a tube distortion, while also allowing you to experiment around other distorion tones and effects. So I am pretty happy with my solid state amp for what I need it to do.

Hey Ash,

First let me say pretty much what everyone else has already said, that you are a pretty talented guitarist and Rock Hard.

Second, let me ask what many have asked already, what is the name of the Santana song you play in your video.

And finally, what is your favorite instrumental to play? You looked like you got pretty deep into the Santana you were playing. I am currently working on Vinnie Moore's Coming Home. I would love to hear what your rendition of that song would sound like. If you haven't heard it before you should really check it out.

Take care, catch you later.

The song I played in that particular video is Samba Pa Ti by Santana, with an intro from Victory is Won by Santana. I don't know many instrumentals, but my favorite solo to play is still Sweet Child Of Mine and it probably always will be :P
