Free Advice Section Because objectivity is something people close to a music project usually lack, here is a list of people NOT qualified to judge your mix: Your mom, your bandmates, your girlfriends/boyfriends, your wives/husbands, your BFF Jill, your homeboy from the block, your number one fan, the hot barista at Starbucks.
Always approach an industry professional and ask for an opinion. Chances are you will get one. It might not always be what you'd like to hear, but it will be honest and objective.
Our engineers are fantastic, but they are not miracle workers. While we can honestly say that we can improve almost any track, there will be some that are beyond salvaging. We will address those issues during your free consultation. Here are some issues that we have run across in the past:
1-Drums, guitars, vocals, or other instruments "bounced" down to stereo tracks. There's no way to separate the elements. There's no magic box. Without individual elements a competitive mix is usually not attainable.
2-Stereo "beats" in hip-hop projects. Again, if we don't have the separate elements it is impossible to truly elevate your mix. Insist on receiving individual tracks from your beat makers and producers. Stereo two-tracks are not professional.
3-Tuning, tuning, tuning. Although we may be able to fix up a monophonic instrument such as a bass guitar, your Drop-D power chords can not be fixed if they are out of tune. Same rule applies for any multi-timbral or multi-voiced instrument.
4-Unmanageable bleed from nearby instruments can also be a problem in some mixes. Keep this in mind when you record.
