Two-Disc Collector's Edition CD SECRETS Blends Gothic Rock With Operatic Flourishes
_______________________________________________________________
LOS ANGELES, CA - (May 15, 2007 DMPR) - With their double album SECRETS currently being hailed as "a perfect combination of rock, pop, and classical influences" (MONSTERS & CRITICS), Los Angeles' THE DIVINE MADNESS are pleased to announce that they are putting the finishing touches on their eagerly awaited follow up, THE RAPTURE.
In stores now, SECRETS has been lauded as a triumph of prolific songwriting, intense performances, and beautiful images. The album takes the listener on an epic journey to heaven and hell; the first disc is entitled 'Paradiso' and the second 'Inferno.' When asked about the band's inspiration, charismatic songwriter and vocalist VICTORIA MAZZE cites influences spanning "death, birth, love, lust, mortality, immortality, sacrifice, religion, politics, stories in the paper, stories from children's books, and personal experiences. We are addicted to feeling."
Yet even though the inventive arrangements, unique harmonies, unusual rhythms, and flirtations with classical elements give the musical sophisticate plenty to chew on, The Divine Madness' songs are always uniquely accessible, and that's part of the magic. The classical influences aren't present for the sake of mere eclecticism. Instead, they bring additional force, dimension, and texture to the deliciously lyrical melodies and haunting vocal harmonies.
The Divine Madness marks the rebirth of cinematic Goth/Rock with style, echoing such Eighties artists as Berlin, Sisters Of Mercy, and Siouxsie and The Banshees while challenging such contemporaries as Evanescence and Lacuna Coil.
Are they Art Rock? Art New Wave? Whatever the label may be, the band breathes originality. Victoria and her collaborators have carved out a distinct sound of angelic vocals with epic choruses, cinematic alt/rock/classical instrumentation, and electronic flourishes, all with a sensual gothic touch.
As SECRETS continues to enjoy critical success, the band is hard at work on THE RAPTURE. About the new project, percussionist Chris Cano reveals "most of the material for the next album is already finished; we are constantly looking to the future." As a collection of inventive melodies and unexpected combinations of sound, THE RAPTURE promises to be the most adventurous release these talented artists have yet produced.
With a ½ cup of wit, a sparkle of imagination, and a pinch of madness, these gifted artisans have succeeded in bringing pop music to a new plateau. Technique is worthless if it sits there asking to be admired like pretty china plates, but every note The Divine Madness slings at you glows with vitality. It's usually festive and exuberant, occasionally beautifully plaintive. And it's always dazzling.
Quite simply, you've never heard anything like this before.
