Current mood: excited
the new album will still be the four of us playing music together.
There are many scattered reasons for this change that I won't go into; however, the main reason is that we feel, after getting really deep into the new album, that it is not a proper representation of what "The Unusual Suspects" are/were as a band. We feel that this new album is something else, a new start if you will.
For almost six years we, The Unusual Suspects, have played the Southeast and put out two EP's that we could not be more proud of (I can't stress that point enough)! This decision was/is not because we are disowning any of our previous work. We started this band when we were all 21 (actually earlier if you count the years we played together before Matt Kelley joined the band), and at the beginning we didn't have a clue as to what we were doing. But I think that we faked it amazingly well. We were played on radio stations across the Southeast, played numerous radio station-sponsored shows, we were on Fox 5's Good Day Atlanta, our first trip to New York was to play our music, and we played with a ton of great bands: Shawn Mullins, Flickerstick, Scratchtrack, Sugarcult, Hawthorne Heights, Early November, Starfish & Coffee, and a lot more that I'm forgetting. For what it's worth, it was one hell of a ride for almost 6 years, but that part is over now. Thanks to everyone who has stood by us: all of our friends and our families (The Megrue family, the Kelly family, all of the Gardners and the McMickles, Mossimo, Tom, Jacob, Mandy, Sheila, J Matt, John, Courtney, Billy, Luke, Jake, Derek and that entire crew, and there are so many more that I can't think of right now because I'm a few beers deep, thank you so much! But this is not a goodbye letter...in fact, it's really the opposite.
With the "end" of the Unusual Suspects comes the beginning of a new project.
We aren't revealing the name of the "new" band just yet because we want to have everything ready to go when we unveil the name so we can hit the ground running. I promise, when the new album comes out, this will all make sense. Mark my words: "This will be our best, most honest album to date." We CANNOT wait to finally have this thing out! I feel like it's the album I've been wanting to put out for a long, long time and we have finally reached that point as a band.
So stay tuned over the next few months, we will be making more announcements and will be making the move over to our new permanant home...hope you come with us!
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and we can't wait to see you in 2009!
matt
