The SXSW Music Festival got off to a great start Wednesday. Personal highlights for me were seeing Echo & the Bunnymen perform “The Killing Moon,” Roky Erickson singing “You’re Gonna Miss Me,” The Heartless Bastards performing “The Mountain” and hearing “She’s About a Mover” performed by a band including Augie Meyers and Doug Sahm’s son Shawn Sahm.
I spent many hours planning my SXSW coverage, but as I was walking to my first show of the day I heard a glorious racket coming out of the club Roux. It drew me in, and there I made this photo of the Bilbao, Spain, band Capsula. Discovering new bands and other surprises is what makes SXSW so much fun.
