Last week, I ran out of space on my computer's hard drive. This is more impressive when you know that I had a second, external hard drive, too. Ninety-three gig, all used up. Well, except for about 214 kb. Even clearing up old stuff only netted me an additional 2.5 Gig of free space.
So Sunday, while I was taking a shower, Chad sneakily switched out my computer with the new one he built me almost two years ago. It's a better computer, faster with more than double the hard drive space of the old one. But I hate switching to new computers. It's like moving house, only more painful. No matter how thoroughly you document everything on your original computer, no matter how many lists you make and check and re-check, you will still spend the next few weeks stumbling over things you forgot and now need to scramble to find the CD to install on the new machine. Or set up on the new machine. Like the FTP URL for the animal rescue website you volunteer to maintain, which you haven't typed in for years because FrontPage has always remembered it for you. But now you're on a new machine, and need to update the site, and FrontPage is blinking at you expectantly while you scratch your head and bellow, "Hey, Chad, what's the website FTP url again?"
Luckily I still have my old computer, so I can run over to it when I'm in a time crunch and hit a brick wall on the new one.
But, it's a good thing. It's forcing me to let go of old programs like ShowBiz and Adobe PhotoShop Elements (yeah, the original version) in favor of more robust ones like Adobe Premiere Elements and PSPX. Of course, that means learning them, so things take a bit longer now than they did before. I'm sure in a few weeks it'll all be old hat, though, and I'll wonder why I didn't do this sooner.
Speaking of video, ARFP now has a YouTube channel. And the first video uploaded is the uber-cuteness that is my foster kitten Solomon.
She does this all the time! It's even more adorable -- and entertaining -- in real life.
(At the moment, she's climbing all over my lap, determined to type on the keyboard. Something about "needing to reach out to her fans...")
