hello gang.  iris tagged me to talk about my first car, so here goes.
my mom surprised me with it my sophomore year...spring of 95.
it was an '86 mazda rx-7.  the color was "driftwood", and the inside was merlot.
a little bit browner than the one seen here:

it had power everything, and no back seats.

the previous owner had installed some anti-theft thing that would act up...meaning sometimes my car wouldn't start.  it got very annoying.
so my mom ended up selling it to a different friend a couple of years later for the same price she bought it for.  score.

my next car actually seems more like my first car....it was a 97 escort that i got in 96 because, at that time, it was only $1200 more to get a brand new one.  it was the year that ford revamped the escort, so it was much sleeker.  i got a green 5-speed.  they didn't have a green one on the lot that was ready/inspected, so i left in a red one, and dealer guy drove 3 hours to my college to switch with me...buy that man a coke!  i was freaking out because he was extremely late...turns out he didn't drive it over 55mph.
i had that car for 11 years until sept. of last year.  it never gave me any trouble, but it was just started to get to the replacement age.

mkay. in other news, i wrote and recorded a christmas song over the weekend.  in my closet.  that is just gay times gay.  to the gayth power.  i didn't really try to write a christmas song; i was just sitting in traffic and humming mindlessly. i started to think about how lonely the holidays can be if you're single.  then i thought that having someone but not being able to be with them might be worse...
anyhoo, feel free to add it to your page.
*for those that added it yesterday, i uploaded a "better" version...so that the vocals don't sound like i'm in the closet.

CLICK!

I don't know why but every RX7 I see over here is a very light Metallic Green!!!

PS.
For a 'gay' song it's everso catchy!!!

Like the tune! My first car was a black Ford Escort that I called "the sunsport" because it had a tacky red stripe and the word "sunsport" on the side. Obviously named that for the leaky moon-roof. I think it was an 88 or 89 (bought used). I drove that thing to the ground.
It got me to Chicago and I practically drug it to the dealer for a new car in 1998

RX-7? Sweeeeet! My first car was a '71 Bel Air 4-door that belonged to my fiance's grandmother, who passed just before I graduated college (didn't have a car thru HS and college...bummer!).
A deer ran into the side of the car and dislodged a massive hunk of Bondo - no one in the family ever knew she had had an accident with the car! Way to go, Grams!

Cool to hear that you bask in radiant Ford power as well - I have a '98 Mercury Mystique (essentially the same as a Ford Contour) that is just about to rack up 250,000 miles! I bought it in '99 w/ only 17K on it (for $7000 less than a new one, and it still had the new car smell, etc.) Been a very good car, although I have my eyes open, same as you...just about time to get a new 4-wheeled suit for the next decade! (Drive it til it drops, I always say!)

Whatcha drivin' now? Did you get new or used?

P.S.
I haven't heard the song yet, but I am betting it sounds less gay when you come out of the closet? Or is it more gay? Anyway, maybe that is why you are single this Xmas - haha!

Happy Holidays, Shel, and glad to see a new post!

Like the song and the sound of the instrument accompaniment. It needs strings.
Can you fit the string section in your closet?

My first was a '82 mazda 626...a goldy-brown color. It was a piece 'o shite. The transmission failed within the first several weeks of owning it.
I should have taken the hint that I was getting a lemon by the novelty sign hanging in the office that read "If assholes could fly, this place would be an airport.
"

Beautiful song! :D Yes. You're right.
It is kinda lonely without the loved ones, especially this one.
:o/

Coincidently ran into this onmy daily surfing:

http://jalopnik.com/5108140/nice-price-or-crack-pipe-2450+mile-1985-mazda-rx+7-for-15-grand

I am a car nut and I love jalopnik.com - it is my favorite site for car related stuff. The have a "Nice Price or Crack Pipe?" feature, and this is the first car I voted "nice price" on. (The day before they had a Chevette w/ low miles listed for $8995....crack pipe!!!)
