Argh!!!!

During the short time the Barking Mad Campaign has been working to galvanise support in opposing these ridiculous proposals, I have been suprised at how few of the hundreds we have spoken to had even heard of them. Indeed, several local Councillors were totally unware!

Not that suprising if you visit the Council's website. Its not listed under Current Consultations. The proposals have been omitted from the on-line version of City News. Not that the magazine delivered to our doors was much clearer! "Help us become a more Dog Friendly City" it shouts. A graphic of a cute little doggy in a pink heart shape. Outrageous! Are they taking the piss or what?

And if you search their website & type anything relevant like 'dog ban', 'dog restrictions' or 'dog proposals' into the sites search engine..... you get absolutely NO RESULTS FOUND!

This is scandalous! I'm totally amazed at their incompetance and lack of diligence!

I will of course include this arguement in my statement to the Council as another good reason why they should scrap these stupid, unjust and unfair proposals!!!

Karl - Mission Control.

I too have searched the council web site for the proposals against dogs. I have found nothing.

I don't know if I should say this but I am a member of Xchange and receive questionnaires from B & H councils Reasearh and Consultation Team on various subjects. I have received one recently with questions regarding dogs on behalf of the Animal Welfare Team under New Dog Control Orders. 7 questions in all and now I see that they are all related to the proposed ban on dogs in specific areas. This has to be returned by 10th March. I was pretty angry as a responsible dog owner and duly answered the questions. It is since I received this questionnaire that the information of the proposals has become public.

I am not sure how many people form part of the Xchange group, possibly one less after this is printed, :-) but if the petition is to be handed in on the 13th which i presume is near the consultation date, I wonder whether the views of the Xchange group are going to given the time for processing. If you would like any more information on this Karl you can contact me through email.

I am appallled at the prospect of beach closure to dogs along with the other areas which are being considered. I firmly believe that a dog should be on a lead in certain areas and on the streets but to have to rein a dog in on the downs, ie; the Beach, Hollingbury Golf Course and Waterhall is sheer lunacy. Until last year I had two who enjoyed the beach as much as I do, sadly I have only one now and I take her to socialise with other dogs on the beach as she badly misses her companion. I am totally responsible for my dogs habits (so to speak) and would never leave any deposits for some unsuspecting soul to walk in and no other responsible owner does either.

Brighton Council/Councillors should be earning the wages which we pay them dealing with real problems of the streets of Brighton and Hove. There are far more important issues which need to be dealt with. It is my opinion now that councillors think up these rediculous proposals to show they are working to increase their working time thus expenses.

They should leave law abiding dog owners alone, go after the irresponsible, empty the dog bins more regularly in out of the way areas and it might just be a good idea to put more of them on the streets. I hate to see some overflowing with bags left under the bins. Hollingbury Golf Course is a fine place to look at this situation. Now there's a thought, Is this proposed ban to save on having to empty the bins. If we can't walk our dogs in areas there should be no need for dog bins. HHHMmmmmmmmm!!

i really can't believe that this is even happening. what type of nanny state do we live in. i own a hotel called 'blanch hlouse' in brighton and we pride ourself on the fact that we are dog friendly. our wonderful Hungarian puli, 'poulux' is often on the beach and we welcome people as tourists (money for the council!!!) to bring their dogs down to brighton. so what do i say, yes they can bring your dogs and stay at blanch house but you can't walk them!!!!!
this is a crazy and despicable ban and ,made worst because none of us knew anything about it until now. we have very little time to deal with this but we must. i have send emails to everyone i know including zoe ball and other well know brightonions. we need as much publicity as possible and i will do anything i can to make people aware of this ban.
what do people without a car do??? what about the elderley whose only exercise and social engagement is through walking their dog on the beach do ????
i'm so angry i can't write anymore.

everyone has to do as much as they can. do you know any journalists???? do you know any councillers???

come on lets get this ban overturned

STOP THE DOG BAN!

I notice the Council have finally taken notice of the campaign. Yesterday they altered their website so the Proposals are on the home page. Still nothing comes up if you search anything like "dog ban" etc.

Better late then never eh? Still I think its appalling how badly they have communicated what are substantial and far reaching proposals.
