As we’ve gotten older, we’ve found it more and
more difficult to hold more than one idea in our heads at one time, and so
rather than give you all the latest Houston Jones travelogue, or recount our
fascinating debates in the recording studio over the merits of Pod Farm, we’d
like instead to focus on our upcoming show at the Little Fox Theater in Redwood
City, CA on April 5th. As previously announced in these very
pages (not only can we only hold on to one idea, we have to repeat it), we’re
doing a show with the remarkable Stevie Coyle, now out on his own after years
of faithful service with the Waybacks. Just as an aside, Chris saw Stevie
(with a (mostly) trained cat of all things) with the Royal Lichtenstein
Quarter Ring Circus back when the plant and animal phyla were still sorting
themselves out. The cats have now retired, one presumes, but Coyle abides,
having developed into one of the finer finger picking guitar players on this or
any other planet while retaining his vastly entertaining stage persona.
While this would be worth the price of admission alone (even
without the cat), there is the exciting prospect for us of a reunion of
original Waybacks—Stevie and our Glenn Houston (along with Chojo Jacques),
were the founding members of that storied band, who have of course
gone on to do great things with their current ferociously talented lineup. Plus,
Peter is the original drummer and Chris was the first bass player under 200
pounds, the original guy being unable to see the glamour in playing 4 sets at
the Plough and Stars for 35 bucks. So this show promises to be more
than a showcase of great playing, it will be a reunion of old friends and
musical collaborators, both of which—friendship and collaboration—will
be on display. We’d love to see you there. For those of you
who can think more than one thought at once, details on Sunday’s show, and everything
else, are below, and as always, at www.houstonjones.com.
Hazily,
Chris
