Friends of Houston Jones:
I must start this newsletter with a gargantuan THANK YOU to all
our great fans that made it to the Freight and Salvage gig. Between
reports of people being out of town and the economic situation, I don't mind telling you I
was a bit worried. You guys are the BEST!! I really can't put in words
how it makes us feel to have such wonderful support from such wonderful
people. Hope you all enjoy your "sampler" EP of a couple of the new
studio cuts plus a bonus track of a live version of "Jericho Road" recorded at the legendary San Gregorio store by our buddy Charlie Natzke.
"Jericho Road" - Our new CD - is getting very close to completion. We
are in the final mixing stage and the graphics are well on their way.
We still expect a summer release. We will let you know as soon as we
have a firm date.
Upcoming gigs:
This Weds. July 1st at The Black Oak Casino in Tuolumne (near Sonora)
playing with out friends Dave Shapireau and West of Next - starts at 8pm.
Sat. July 11th - A special show with the inimitable Joe Craven sitting in with HJ, at the historic Woodland Opera House Theatre
in Woodland - 8PM. This is a great old concert hall with great
acoustics and vibe. NOT to be missed!
Sun. July 12th - For you literary types: we will play a sit down concert at the Pleasanton Public Library - 2pm
Fri. July 24th - Jazz and Blues by the Bay - kind of a music/art/street fair event in lovely downtown Sausalito
Sat. July 25th - Mission Coffee Roasting Concert Series - 151 Washington Blvd. Fremont - 7PM. This is an ongoing coffee house
concert series that is very popular with some of our fans due to the
intimate nature of the show. This is one of those gigs that you can get
up front and personal with us.
Sun. July 26th - Concert in the Park - Civic Center lawn - 110 E. Main St. Los Gatos - 5PM. Your classic put the blanket on the grass and bring a picnic and the kids show - bring your sunscreen.
Sat. Aug. 1st - Mama Hillybean's Cafe - 426 E. Tehachapi Blvd. Tehachapi. 7pm. Our triumphant return to one of the hippest places in the desert - you can youtube us playing there last year.
Sun. Aug. 2nd - The Coffee Gallery Backstage - 2029 Lake Ave. Altadena (near Pasadena) - 7pm. Another lovely, long running folk concert series in a cozy room - smell the band. This show completes our Southern California mini-tour.
Sat. Aug. 8th - West Side Theatre - 1331 Main St. Newman - A special
show at a special place - featuring the one and only Stevie Coyle!
Stevie will be playing some solo stuff from his just released CD and
then can probably be persuaded to do a couple of classics with the
band. We did a show like this at the Little Fox Theatre and it was a
smash! Another not-to-be-missed show.
Sun. Aug. 9th - Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival - San Benito County Fairgrounds, 9000 Airline Hwy - Tres Pinos
(near Hollister) - 2:15pm - A small (several hundred) festival with
mostly traditional bluegrass acts but for some reason they love us and
keep asking us back. You may camp out and make a weekend
of it if you wish.
There's plenty of other good stuff coming up too - including a
house concert sponsored by our good friends Dave and Cindy Arsenault in
Cameron Park (see
http://www.cphouseconcerts.com/ ); the
Millpond Music Festival (with Joe Craven);
another trip to L.A.; more shows at the San Gregorio Store, etc....
