Upcoming Bohemian in Exile shows
Monday, Dec. 14th Keenan Lawler with Nick Schillace at Le Petit Zinc Lutist
Jozef Van Wissem had to cancel his portion of this duo tour, but that
gives Monday's billing even more resonance with the sudden passing last
week of guitarist Jack Rose. Both Keenan and Nick were friends with
Jack and played many shows with him around the country, all being
leading exponents of American Primitive guitar. Pittsburgh's Keenan
Lawler has one of the most unique sounds among his peers, at times
resembling southern Indian Carnatic music, at others the expansive
sound-scapes of Fred Frith's Guitar Solos, all delivered on
resonator guitar. Detroiter Nick Schillace keeps his sources closer to
home, drawing on country blues, fiddle tunes and other Americana, but
transforming them into the basic vocabulary of his extended
compositions. Nick will likely also play resonator guitar, or maybe
some 12- string.
Le Petit Zinc will open for the evening performance, starting at 8 pm. $5 minimum donation. 1055 Trumbull Ave., at Howard.
