Arrangements are coming together for the songs that will makeup my second record. I'm looking forward to getting the new material hammered out and fashioned into something I couldn't otherwise create on my own with the fantastic group of talent that I've gained access to in the past year.
Last night I loaded into Red Pill Studios in South St. Louis to meet up with drummer and bassist Joe Meyer and Eric Grossman for a rehearsal before the tape gets rolling in a couple of weeks. At the helm was Jacob Detering, producer, multi-instrumentalist and the quiet guiding force behind the stand-out recordings that emerge from Red Pill at prolific frequency. This was to be a meeting of the minds (and talents) suspended from any impending deadline or concert date in a room that in my opinion has near mystical qualities--one thing you learn about Jacob pretty quickly is that environment is key to great recordings. I had hand-picked a few songs from the 15 or so viable demos that have risen to the top over the past year and a half to be sussed out for our initial recording session. After the obligatory BS-ing that would make a sailor blush, the mics were ready to capture whatever came out and we were all circled around the center of Red Pill's main room with instruments in hand.
What happened next will have to be heard at a later time! I can only say that if the recording process continues to go as well as the first rehearsal, I know we will have made something I'll be able to stand by for years to come, undeniably well crafted and my best work yet. Can't wait to share more with you all soon!
best,
Caleb
