Police arrest 3 after riding mower falls out of minivan

Monday, October 27
Staff Reports
WINSTON-SALEM — A lawnmower that fell out of a minivan led police to stolen garden items valued at more than $22,000.

Winston-Salem police said they saw three people trying to steal a riding mower from the Sears store at 100 Hanes Mall Boulevard at 6:38 a.m. Sunday. As officers approached, a Dodge Caravan minivan drove off, and a riding mower fell out of the back.

Police later stopped the van on South Stratford Road near Interstate 40 and arrested three people.

After further investigation, police said that the three suspects were involved in numerous other thefts of landscaping materials and equipment from other people and businesses. Police searched 608 Terrace Avenue and found these items:

* 3 lawnmowers (two riding and one walk-behind)
* 3 mopeds
* several tillers, edge trimmers and weed trimmers
* 65 landscaping plants
* 89 bags of bark mulch
* 41 decorative flower plant pots
* 31 bags of decorative rocks

Three suspects were later charged with felony larceny and possession of burglary tools. They are: Lisa Farmer Woodlard, 47 of 3019 Gilbert St. in Winston-Salem; David Ronnell Peterson, 35, of 960 Sportsman Drive in Walkertown; and Alphonzo Dennard Galloway, 38, of 930 N. Patterson Ave. in Winston-Salem. Bond information was not immediately available.

Police said they expect to file additional charges.
