trip, i think you are on to something here. just needs a bit more refinement. here are my completely arm chair quarterback observations.  yeah i agree with the namm show chops. probably better off to focus on more songcentric compositions and try playing with different tonalities on the bass.  (a bit like steve does with his harmonizer) make the melodies and hooks more of something that the audience could hum along with ya know?   also you should try singing some of your vocal songs in this setting. you've got a nice voice and songwriting/lyrical chops so showcase it a bit more. maybe even try oteil burbridge style scatting.  anything to add variety to the tones and make it less centered around bass chops and more around songs and compositions.

interestingly i am developing something similar with a vocalist/zen drummer and im thinking of incorporating a roland vb99 with software synths into the show.    hopefully i can get it off the ground this winter.  i'll let you know how it goes.  maybe we could even do some shows together next year of this kinda stuff.  could be cool!  anyway give me a call, my number hasnt changed.   i would love to hear more of the details of what you used to put this stuff together.
