haloDim - a review by Ivo.Lola
This was a perfect New Year's present I got; Unreleased material to listen to. haloDim is an experience that shouldn't be missed.
First of all the method of building this CD is awesome. Producer (Wings Of An Angel) and MC (Mercury Waters) living and working thousands of miles apart, using the Internet and home equipment, become haloDim. This is the good side of globalization. Two guys, one from Israel and the other from the U.S. get together and make a brilliant FIRST offering. Wings Of An Angel, influenced mostly by Jazz, experiments with subtle harmonies, uneven beats and curious ethnic sounds. The tracks themselves are produced and mixed perfectly for an MC. But not any MC; Mercury Waters' effortless vibe, equally uneven (often bordering spoken word) and experimental flows add more dimensions and feeling into the mix. Moreover, guest appearances on this CD are fantastic!
All in all, this CD becomes an experience when listened to closely, giving us an image of the world, which is not always happy and optimistic, but realistic and straight forward. No bling-bling, no bitches, none of that, this is real Hip-Hop! The instrumental pieces are placed nicely, giving this album a feeling of a story, a journey to take. Recommended, not only to Hip-Hop fans, this journey should be taken by one and all.
