Current mood:  pissy
Category: Blogging
Ok, as you can plainly see from my blogs on here, I RARELY blog. RARELY. Today I felt the need because I almost WRECKED my car, not believeing what I am seeing. I am sure there is some valuable explanation of this, but not to some folks who call Louisville home.....
I'm taking my sons to school this morning and I cut through Cherokee and Seneca Parks, like usual.  Anyone who lives in Louisville notices the constant vision of stacked tree limbs and sticks in EVERY SINGLE YARD in Louisvlle, ALL OF THEM! You can't even park in some places in the Highlands for the sticks and left-over branches from the ice storm.  When it gets warmerm the whole city can walk outside, strike a match, and get out the marshmallows.
Makes you wonder when (if) any of it will get picked up by the city.
But then.....I almost got ran over by 2 city trucks hauling away storm debris from SECENA GOLF COURSE!!! That's right, seems the golf course is more important than clearning the way for pedestrians, bicyclists, not to mention automobiles. You can't be serious. God forbid a limb get in the way of a golfer (BTW, I am a golfer)--gotta get that cleaned up....
Meanwhile, all over the rest of the city, and I won't even talk about the West End, who hasn't seen any street maintenance in YEARS.
So, ok, I digress. but I do feel better. Surely someone agrees with me?? I don't care what the real answer is. Just tell us you aren't going to pick it up and we'll do it ourselves?????

I'd say you have a valid point here. I can (partially) understand if a golf club business had this service paid for... but I agree with you that as a matter of public safety and smooth transportation, the main roads and residential areas including the West End should take priority. Even though the clean up is extremely slow for some odd reason, at least it started.

Email this to jerry maybe he can get some more bailout money to employ the homeless to pick up sticks. I'm headed to the meat store in the west end tomorrow and I'll give you a report.

Really. How long has it been now it been now? When I moved here from Chicago 4 years ago I was stunned at the lack(and size) of the snowplows here. Louisville does get snow!!! And ice!! Since then I've seen improvement. But where are the army of trucks that any city should have, or at least have appropriated, for such an event as wind or ice? Subcontract. C'mon Jerry. I like you a lot but the debris is starting to border on LEO's "Eyesore Of The Week". I'm sure all of the "visible routes" for Derby will be clean as a whistle. Which is a start. As far as the West End goes, I grew up there(37th & Duncan) and I wish that a lot more than cleaning sticks was all that was necessary. But I get your point. Don't mean to rant but as woodworker, I'm looking at all this great lumber that the city is letting slip through its hands. White & red oak, maple, poplar, cherry. LA, CA sells its downed trees to sawmills & woodworkers outright.
A man can dream can't he?
