Ok, so the words "shit" and "heads" combined is a little harsh but believe me, the crowd at the Download Festival in Donnington was hard to handle.
Firstly let me qualify the reasons I was at the Download Festival and WHAT the Download festival is. Remember the Monsters' of Rock concept? Download is the bastard child of Monsters' of Rock except that the headliners sound like the people they influenced (Metallica) and the other bands need a make-up team of 50 to make their prosthetic rot-face look like it's really about to infect the audience (Slipknot). My burlesque troupe was hired to be a part of the aftershow show by Sailor Jerry Rum. I don't think anyone knew what we were in for because not only did we get bottles pelted at us (plastic thank god), but one of our fellow acts ended up having a little stage fight with the DJ who decided their act was boring by interrupting it with a little Slayer. Needless to say some special DJ (aka the editor of Kerrang! magazine) got a fist full of pig organs shoved in his face and some piss sprayed on him.
I Digress.....
Before the evening of the stage fight, we all spent the day wandering the ground of Download, eating shitty food, drinking a bit of free rum, seeing some guy get kicked in the nuts for calling Steve O a pussy; the usual. We were really there wasting time until we could see Iggy and the Stooges, and when the time came........ALL of them were there. ALL of them were there and rocking and the only real rock that happened that day or night or all summer in the UK. I get all choked up just thinking that I actually got to see and hear their songs live and it didn't suck... it ROCKED! Iggy called the festival on it's corporate bullshit (they were partly sponsered by Clear (evil) Channel) and got the kids to storm the stage and dance with him (if they got passed the security people). He even BLED FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The songs were really interesting to hear in the context of the age we're in now as opposed to when they were written and how valid they still seem.
No one's reading this but maybe I'll look back on this in a month and think "Those were the days".

Best T-shirt I saw at the fest..... "talk to the hand.... cuz the face is full of FURY!" placed upon a pale, soft excuse for a disaffected youth...... ah.
