I need to be clear about something at the outset. I am not attempting to list the greatest albums of all time. This list is not even necessarily a list of my favorite albums.

No. This is a list of albums I could not live without - albums that I can listen to over and over and still not get enough. If you haven't listened to them - you should. If you don't want to buy them, just ask and I would gladly burn you a copy. Consider it your education. Enough time spent with albums like this, and you will be cured of obsessions with American Idol, MTV and just about everything you hear on the radio. Breathe them in deeply - it's good for your soul.

Rain Dogs - Tom Waits
Highway 61 Revisitied - Bob Dylan
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
Comfort Eagle - Cake
Picaresque - The Decemberists
Robbers & Cowards - Cold War Kids
Black on Both Sides - Mos Def
Good News for People Who Like Bad News - Modest Mouse
Separation Sunday - The Hold Steady
Songs of Love and Hate - Leonard Cohen
Transformer - Lou Reed
Figure 8 - Elliott Smith
The Score - The Fugees
Excitable Boy - Warren Zevon
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - Dead Kennedys
Marquee Moon - Television
Illadelph Halflife - The Roots
Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest
Kill the Moonlight - Spoon
Surfer Rosa - The Pixies
The Mouse and the Mask - Danger Doom
Let It Be - The Replacements
Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus - Nick Cave
Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
