This past weekend, I participated in the 2007 Hillside Festival in Guelph ON. If you've never been to this festival you should go at some point -- beautifully situated beside Guelph Lake, Hillside was full of energy, compassion and tents! Many attendees, volunteers and performers choose to camp at the conservation area where it takes place, and the whole affair has a distinctly family feel about it.
I performed on Saturday with Krystle Mullin and Dwayne Morgan as my co-features. Each poet did a fantastic job on what proved to be a very sunny, muggy day. Krystle was busily hawking her "Ten Cow Wife" t-shirts and Dwayne was his usual dazzling self, on stage and with the crowd.
Now that I have my first major out-of-town music festival performance under my belt, I'm looking forward to new opportunities, including a couple of "poetic rapportage" engagements, some political poetic performances and my second year on the roster for MASC, a group linking Ottawa artists with local schools.
But before that, I'll be in the Toronto International Poetry Slam (hosted by Dwayne's group Up From The Roots) on September 2 and gearing up for the 2007 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word in Halifax NS. Busy times ahead!
