Category: News and Politics
The Democratic party can reasonably expect to lose two Governor's seats tonight. And they might slowly but surely be losing a lot more than that.

I'm a Democrat.

I'm a Liberal Democrat.

And call me crazy, but when the American public gives the Democratic Party a huge majority in both houses of Congress AND the Presidency, to boot, I expect something to get done. Quickly.

I'm still waiting.

And frankly, I'm a little sick of hearing about Blue Dog Democrats and Arlon Specter Democrats and forgot-who-the-hell-they-are-or-who-voted-for-them  Democrats. Pass something, or I'll tell you what, this newly minted Stray Dog Democrat might get up off the porch and start taking a look around the neighborhood to see what else is going on.

Regardless of how I cast my vote, it seems pretty likely the Democrats will do something that seemed virtually impossible after last November: lose both houses of Congress.

But being gutless, divisive, lazy, unprincipled and abandoning those who elected you to lick the ass of those who buy you off will do that.

You're not bulletproof, and the American public is VERY fickle. If you're assuming even fifty percent of the people who voted for you in the last election even know the difference between a Democrat and a Republican, you got it wrong. They wanted change. And in long about twelve months, unless you grow a pair (and that includes you, too, ladies) they're going to want change again.

Another thing you did this week that has lost a lot of my respect, and I have to be fair because I called bullshit on this when the Republicans did it, too, is you're lying about the economy.

You're lying.

You're well-selected cabinet and cadre of oh-so-much-smarter-than-the-rest-of-us advisors has been burning the midnight oil trying to cook the numbers so you could tell us the Stimulus Package is working and the economy is recovering.

Really? I called bullshit when the Republicans told me the economy was great because all of their friends seemed to be doing ok and the stock market was booming and now I'm telling you you're full of bullshit when you tell us the economy is recovering. Why, because Ford is making money? Because the banks and insurance corporations you gave OUR money to seem to be doing better. No fucking shit, Sherlock, if you gave me a bunch of someone else's money I'd probably be doing better, too. One number, and one number ONLY should be important to those who actually work for a living... the unemployment numbers. And those numbers are NOT going down.

So, you watch your ass, because I'll put up with a lot. A little corruption here and there, fuck your secretary, dance around the truth... we expect that from inveterate liars such as yourselves. But what I don't expect, and what I will not stomach, is being lied to in the same way the Republicans lied to me. The economy is NOT better, and it's getting worse for the people I know and the people they know.

And if you're going use the wealth of corporations to show me things are getting better I'm here to tell you that you might as well be George Bush. And next November, I might do something I've never done before. Because this Stray Dog Democrat ain't on a chain.

...

"inveterate liars such as yourselves."

Amen.

Idea,

Everytime I see a democrat, like my Representative, I ask: when are you going to pass real campaign finance reform?

Everytime a Dem ask me for money, I say: when are you going to pass real campaign finance reform?

Rinse and repeat. Yes, I also make it clear I could never join an undemocratic institution like a political party in the United States. When money is the number one factor in winning, the votes don't mean much. But like the Yankees buy a penant, it's the American way to buy offices.

Sick'em!

Everyone is getting so sick of it. I was sick of it after three months. But rest assured they will write the health care into the budget. Nothing can stop that. However all of this pissing around has turned public opinion against them and we the hell is the infrastructure that would have given us lots of jobs?

And I've been on that public health care some people are so high on for about a year now, and here's another thing people need to know... you get what you pay for. And all those infrastructure jobs: haven't seen any in my neighborhood. I'm not hopping off the bandwagon altogether, but I am saying I better see some results, soon.

And I'm NOT a Hamiltonian Federalist. I'm a Liberal Democrat. I believe in a big government that is elected by the people and serves the needs of the people. This government is neither. High taxes and big government don't scare me. In fact, I think they are necessary to do the most good. But this government is not in the hands of the people and doesn't respond to the needs of the people. It's a big government that protects the interests of the Corporacracy.

When Hamilton was a Federalist there were no Democrats. He was for big government, socialism, especially in finance. His tariff system paid off the war debt for all the colonies. Adams was a small government guy which Hamilton opposed. Hamilton knew how to pay for big government programs. His system gave the USA its early strength. So Hamilton and Washington were very Liberal, even radical in their views before there was the current false political paradigm. It takes money to enforce justice and birth a nation. That is why government must be big enough, to resist bribery. A government which relies on charity to function will starve.

"If the end be clearly comprehended within any of the specified powers, and if the measure have an obvious relation to that end, and is not forbidden by any particular provision of the Constitution, it may safely be deemed to come within the compass of the national authority." Hamilton

"As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality." Washington

No, that sounds more like me. My brain has been doing backlflips the past few weeks. I'm not sure anything is true anymore. I seem to remember thinking at one time that Adams was an asswipe who almost talked the French out of helping us in the Revolution and that his boy, Burr, shot Hamilton. Or was it the other way around?

Agreed, I see it as taxation without representation. We vote them in and they vote according their lobbying interests first and us second.  If those two do happen to dovetail that's when you hear them crowing "Look at my benevolence...Look at what I have done for YOU"...and we lap it up.

The true tests are when we could get something and it pisses off one of their lobbyists...but does that ever happen?

We've been sold off to a plutocracy and, so thorough is their planning, that those with the most to lose fight for their interests ("Socialists!").  Beyond the propaganda, however, is the true gut feeling that to keep the crumbs falling from the plate of the monied class, we have to keep them living in style.

If this economic collapse continues and the crumbs become fewer, Americans will suddenly come to their senses like they did with Bush during Katrina.  It will take something dramatic, perhaps something collateral, like Katrina, that tips the balance dramatically.

A Kucinich will be the shock troop and then marginalized by a powerful moderate reformer, somebody like House Rep. Howard Waxman, who already runs a deep bench.

Kucinich and even Paul can write all the legislation they want, but if no one sponsors it it's just a rhetorical exercise. How the hell do even earnest House members get into that second flank? And it makes me curious how Waxman, who I respect, gets some pretty good degree of power, but Kucinich and Paul are considered whackos. It also seems to me the Plutocracy probably has a pretty good bread and circuses distraction campaign on the books for any contingency such as a Katrina-like event. On a sliding scale according to the tragedy: another Hurricane.... give everyone a new shack, 2 year recession... give everyone a $5,000 gift certificate for the big box store of their choice...

I have thought often about writing a book called "Shock Troopers".  When equities skew, a radical appears:  Macolm X, Irv Rubin (Jewish Defense League), Jerry Rubin (Chicago Seven), and even Gloria Allred.  Shrill, scary and uncompromised.  Moderates on both or the several sides always come forward and eclipse these polemicists  and move the discussion from off-the-board entirely to center stage, often resulting in tepid early reform, but reform nonetheless.

Shock troops are a necessary spark.

we really need more political parties....really....and more choices....because these two parties, in my opinion, have not served us well enough to be kept as the only two...and yeah...it's all about the benjamins baby....not representing the people....we can only vote for what we get...it shouldn't be like that....we shouldn't be limited in, or by, choice....

and your rant here has made me think of bobby d's song...i think the lyrics are quite appropriate....yes yes....:)

It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) -bob dylan (1965)...

Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.
Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fool's gold mouthpiece
The hollow horn plays wasted words
Proves to warn
That he not busy being born
Is busy dying.
Temptation's page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
You discover
That you'd just be
One more person crying.
So don't fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing.
As some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be killed to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred.
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have
To stand naked.
An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.
Advertising signs that con you
Into thinking you're the one
That can do what's never been done
That can win what's never been won
Meantime life outside goes on
All around you.
You lose yourself, you reappear
You suddenly find you got nothing to fear
Alone you stand with nobody near
When a trembling distant voice, unclear
Startles your sleeping ears to hear
That somebody thinks
They really found you.
A question in your nerves is lit
Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy
Insure you not to quit
To keep it in your mind and not fergit
That it is not he or she or them or it
That you belong to.
Although the masters make the rules
For the wise men and the fools
I got nothing, Ma, to live up to.
For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something
They invest in.
While some on principles baptized
To strict party platform ties
Social clubs in drag disguise
Outsiders they can freely criticize
Tell nothing except who to idolize
And then say God bless him.
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in.
But I mean no harm nor put fault
On anyone that lives in a vault
But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.
Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony.
While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer's pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death's honesty
Won't fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes
Must get lonely.
My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards
False gods, I scuff
At pettiness which plays so rough
Walk upside-down inside handcuffs
Kick my legs to crash it off
Say okay, I have had enough
What else can you show me?
And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They'd probably put my head in a guillotine
But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

gotta love bobby d....:)

But I think sometimes we make the mistake of thinking the whole Samsara is just a pattern repeating itself. It's not. We're not looking at the same thing happen over and over. It happens differently every time, and that's why I think we never released from the responsibility of participating fully every time. You never do know when the hole opens that allows some truth to get through.

I think Obama will prove himself in the next 39 months. His admin. is still in it’s infancy. It would take a lot to erase the disaster of the last eight years from voters minds. Republicans' poll ratings are at an all-time low. The Republicans need to gain respect again but it already looks like they’ve reverted to their same old habits of cultural identity politics even in their reconstruction. The “birther” issue will loose more votes than it gains. Big fat ass Limbaugh will help them loose the election. He has started a gossipy, nitpicking, telltale, program that many republicans have joined instead of uniting to prepare solid platforms on hot issues like foreign energy. As the self designated spokesperson for the GOP he  is hoisting the party on a very prejudicial petard. Keep talking, fat ass. If they continue down that path, then we can almost count on the Democrats maintaining control and an Obama second term in 2012. They’re like a bunch of tattling elementary school girls. Conservatives would have to develop refreshed ideas and regenerated political skills to succeed. But it ain’t likely with the likes of Rush, Newt, the Christian coalition and crazy Sarah still around. They are the sure fire cock blockers. Their social conservatism is a big turnoff to people without insurance or jobs and to women who want control over their bodies and to gay people who want fairness and on and on. Without a return to fiscal conservatism they are lost.

Terry, you have to realize those very tactics you bemoan are the very same tactics that have won Republicans elections for two decades. And I would assert they lost the last election because they didn't use those tactics very effectively. They won't make the same mistake again. And here's why Rush Limbaugh won't lose them the election: although the Latino vote felt it's power last election and will vote again, African Americans won't. I disagree with Republicans and I think their beliefs are idiotic, but they are well-organized and won't stumble again. It's going to be a rather disheartening defeat for the Democrats next Fall. Once again: yes, you are right. But like someone said, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public,"

ZL,

The Republicans are dividing, and they lost a seat last night. I don't see them winning back either house. You are right though, the Democrats are worthless, and the Repubilcans are heartless. That leaves me hoping for some progressive to step forward.

I left the Democratic party long ago and don't plan on going back. The two party monopoly is undemocratic, and until the Democrats pass real campaign finance reform and change the election laws to make third parties more viable, they can say goodbye to my membership.

It's time to say enough to the "lesser of two evils". I told this to people when Kerry was running against Bush, and it's even more true today.

One thing I can say about the Democrats; at least they have a few members in Congerss that actually care about the people. The Repubilcans have purged their party of such caring trouble makers.

I do realize the Republicans are almost entirely evil but it seems even if the Democrats are just 25% evil that is enough to ensure that nothing ever happens. I think it's more than 25% right now, though.

And I'm going to go ahead and sort of disagree about the Midterms. I believe the Republicans get their shit together, get a slate of hate-filled issues like gay marriage, civil rights (the ones they care about), big government blah blah blah and due to weak turnout win both houses back.

Lobbyists rule this country because of greed from the asshats in congress.
