Not a massive fan of David Hooper, but I agree with him here.

Cheers,
Aaron.

First of all, who is this guy that thinks he can rip off Nietzsche's famous phrase? I mean, Nietzsche told us that, like, 100 years ago. He was the shit.

Secondly, check out the newest members on MySpace. Know who they are? Young Japanese kids who (a) have great taste in music (b) have a great exchange rate against the dollar and (c) are more like to be our fans than some idiot hipster kids.

Japan or Williamsburg...
Where would I rather tour?

Just saying.

This dude's site looks like a gimmack!

Oh Somer... ;)

While I agree about Japan and Asia's importance (Greater Asia will be 40 percent of the worlds digital music market by 2011 http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2008/06/asia-40-of-glob.html) I disagree about how best to reach them and, more importantly, their money. Sure, they're signing up for MySpace. And maybe they are or are not clicking through enough to purchase your music. But they are BUYING music on their phones/PDAs/IPods. (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2007_Nov_26/ai_n21121031)

Is Hooper a gimmick? Hardly. As I said, I'm not a massive fan, but he is spot on here. MySpace has millions more accounts than it has active users. Get on Twitter, and more importantly, Blip. That's the future.

Cheers,
Aaron

Are you sure this isn't a pyramid scheme?? Or some kind of computer based Peoples Temple???

But I don't WANT the Kool-aid, sir.

Just kidding. I mean, I know you're right, on some level, I just can't jump every time some new-fangled electronic recreation of myspace comes along. Look at Linked-in, Jam Glue, LastFM, iLike, MOG, Mercora, Flotones, JamNow, MusoCity, Haystack, Sonific, Midomi, iJigg, PureVolume, Garageband, Imeem - I mean, if I spend all my time with this stuff, when am I going to making music?
