Alreet?

A few weeks late, but before we kick off with the wanton hard sell, we at Distraction would like to thank everybody who bought a Distraction record, attended a Distraction event, or simply spread the word about us in 2008; releases-wise we had our most successful year so far and our weekender was the most successful one ever. Whether there will be another one remains to be seen (there won't be one this year). But, aye, anyhow, cheers!

Anyway, we are now adding our own winter sale alongside everybody else's; we've got a hectic release schedule this year, and we need all the space and dosh we can get it to make it happen (especially the dosh; we get our records pressed abroad - not our fault hardly anybody in the UK does custom packaging, before you accuse us of contributing to global climate change - and the pound's dead week so it costs a LOT more to press our records. . .). So! We've knocked tons off ALL our stock, so now's the time to take advantage if you haven't done so already. Get amongst it.

We are now doing the following deals on all Distraction stuff:

  • FOUR 7" vinyls for £7.99 (i.e. Buy three 7" vinyls and get one free!)
  • ALL seven 7" vinyls for £10.99!
  • ALL three d_rradio 7" vinyls for £4.99!
  • TWO 7" vinyls and a CD/12" for £8.99!
  • BOTH d_rradio albums for £8.99!
  • Both d_rradio, Moira Stewart and Summer Night Air albums for £13.99!

Simply PayPal us the dosh at info AT distractionrecords.com with a note saying what you want, and we'll get 'em out pronto. Oh, and by the way, we're always up for record swaps with other like-minded individuals, so get in touch if you've got summit to offer. A recap of our records in stock if you're not already familar (all prices are UK-prices, but non-UK prices have been reduced as well, so click on the links for details). . .

SEE MY SOUND 'Hidden Depths EP' (7")
"a heady mix of brutality and beauty, noisy indulgence and melody."
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

MUSHI MUSHI 'Chicken EP' (7")

"Swaggering crunchy Punk-Funk minus the posturing and drained of all that hipster shite drives home the kind of bass that the Chemicals used to ram you with when they used to have testicles and attitude." Stylus Mag
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

TEARS OF ABRAHAM 'Sacrificing The Text' (CD Album)

"They make early career Cabaret Voltaire's analogue sounds like a nauseatingly annoying ‘Birdie Song' wannabe. . . Delia Derbyshire would be proud." Losing Today
Was £5.99, NOW £3.99 INCLUDING P+P

DRESSED IN WIRES 'The Big Black Cock Of Death EP' (12" picture disc)

"I think this will appeal to fans of late 80's Blast First noise ala Big Black and Butthole Surfers and also folks who dig Kid 606 and V Snares. It doesn't really sound like any of them but it's gonna appeal to you folks I think. Not for the faint hearted but the music and artwork (utterly superb!) together are tremendous." Norman Records
Was £5.99, NOW £3.99 INCLUDING P+P

LACHRYMOSE ONE / SANSAVA 'Sometimes A Sense Of Realism Creeps In' / 'untitled' (7" split vinyl)

"The best double-header we've seen this year. . . they'll both have you grinning like an idiot from ear to ear." The Fly
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

SUMMER NIGHT AIR '3' (CD Album)

"Worth tracking down if your taste leans towards the expansive, the minimally melodic and the distinctly dewy-eyed. . . artless but never quite gauche, 3 is a gentle but genuine pleasure." The Wire
Was £5.99, NOW £2.99 INCLUDING P+P

CATHODE 'Chronophobia' / 'Economic Growth' (7" vinyl)

"Excellent little gem of a 7" from Cathode here - somehow managing to fuse the most crunched-up electronic production with a warm effervescent blend of accoustics that just work a treat." Boomkat
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

THE RETAIL SECTORS 'March Of Incurable Workaholic' / 'Song About A Girl Who Killed Herself Yesterday' (8" square lathe cut vinyl)

"Think The Workhouse with hints of Pixies in there. It's what I call great indie guitar pop music. . . Very tasty stuff indeed." brainwashed.com
Was £8.99, NOW £6.99 INCLUDING P+P

D_RRADIO 'Born' / 'Come To Light' (7" vinyl)

"One of the finest pieces of ghostly analogue lullaby gospel to come from this or any other part of the world." Norman Records
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

D_RRADIO 'Dear John' / 'Pick Me Up' (7" vinyl)

"Quite gorgeous if you ask me." Losing Today
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

D_RRADIO 'Out Of Love' / 'You Hold My Breath' (7" vinyl)

"Quality gear indeed." Norman Records
Was £2.99, NOW £2.49 INCLUDING P+P

D_RRADIO 'd_rradio' (CD Album)

"While this is not d_rradio's first album, it's their first real success that will undoubtedly force many to keep them on their radar. The band's music has the ability to seem refreshing yet still feel familiar, making it an easy album to get into that doesn't grow old or tired after repeated listens. d_rradio will undoubtedly go down as one of the premier electronic releases of the year." The Silent Ballet
Was £7.99, NOW £4.99 INCLUDING P+P

D_RRADIO 'd_rradio remixed' (CD Album)

"d_rradio Remixed is an enjoyable listen then, with much to recommend it. . ." The Silent Ballet
Was £7.99, NOW £4.99 INCLUDING P+P

MOIRA STEWART 'Sweetness, Yes!' (CD Album)

"Instantly likable simple pop played with passion and integrity. *****" The Silent Ballet
Was £7.99, NOW £4.99 INCLUDING P+P

Class eh? Okay, that's it for now, stay tuned next week or so for our plans in 2009, including the 12" Tempelhof single and albums by Tempelhof, Necro Deathmort, d_rradio, Mushi Mushi and The Big Oaks.
