I was particularly excited for this show. I am a big fan of Metalocalypse and I like a little Mastodon. 
I showed up a little bit late, but still caught about half of High on Fire. Every band at this show used a projector to put an image in the background. High on Fire kept it simple with their band logo. 
Converge had a little bit too experimental/punk sound for me, but they had good energy! I was surprised to see their singer wearing a v neck shirt. I've never been a fan of v necks..... The background projection they had was some strange, golden color thing that I think they used for an album cover.
I've seen Mastodon before and was not impressed. This time, though, was a major improvement. Probably because last time they played during the day as a smaller band at a festival. They kept their psychedelic image as the background projection, constantly changing it. They had great pits, even though most people in them were really big and bulky. When they were up I wished I had listened to more Mastodon and studied their lyrics before the show, because I was one of the few people not singing along.
Dethklok was definitely my favorite band there by a long shot. They, of course, played small clips and videos of Metalocalypse and the cartoon Dethklok on their projection while they played. The clips were basically the same as they were last time they came by. They showed Face Bones, a bunch of "behind the scenes" stuff, they explained moshing, and they showed Murderface peeing while sitting down. They really only played a few songs from their new cd. I expected most of the show to be new songs. But either was i thought it was great. I always think its funny to see the member that play Dethklok's music. They look NOTHING like the show. Brendon Small is actually.... well..... small. They have some members that look kind of old. But they still put on a great show.
