Stéphane Hourteillan est loin d'être un inconnu dans le métier. Il débute la  batterie à l’âge de 15 ans et entre au Conservatoire National de Toulouse en 1988 à 19 ans.

En 89 il joue dans un quintet de jazz et participe 4 années durant au festival de jazz de Marciac. Il crée avec des amis d’enfance son 1er groupe au sein duquel il découvre la composition et la guitare. En 91-94 il participe à diverses expériences dans des orchestres de cirque avec Carmino d’Angelo. Il rencontre Romain Humeau avec qui il forme le groupe "JE" qui deviendra par la suite Oobick and the pucks puis Eiffel, et écume les scènes rock de Midi-Pyrénées et d'Aquitaine. En 94 il obtient la médaille d’or de percussions classiques ainsi que celle de batterie jazz au CNR de Toulouse. Fin 94 il rencontre René Coll qui l'engage dans son orchestre. En 97 il rejoint parallèlement le groupe "Soul Machine" (funk rock). En 99-2000 il rejoint le trio "Trias" avec Jean Marie Averseng et Laurent David.

En 2002-2003 il découvre les textes de son ami Laurent Lapèze et s’ouvre ainsi la possibilité d’utiliser toutes les idées et compositions qui attendaient au fond des tiroirs. Ayant une culture principalement anglo-saxonne s'exprimer dans sa langue n’a été possible qu’à la découverte des textes de Laurent. "Cela a été un défi et un bonheur de restituer au mieux leur intensité en les chantant moi-même." - dit-il.

Il s’initie donc à la M.A.O  puis  commence quelques maquettes. Parallèlement il s’investit dans différentes formations que sont : le Big Band Brass de Toulouse (Nicole Croisille , Didier Lockwood, Michel Leeb) - Cap Horn’s un ensemble de cuivres et Soul Eleven, groupe de funk.

Ces 15 dernières années au sein de l’orchestre René Coll, il participe à de nombreuses émissions T.V. dont C'est chaud, Fa Si La Chanter, Sacrée Soirée, Miss France, Tapis Rouge, Trente ans de scène de Patrick Sébastien, Sur un air de fête à l'Olympia, Henry Salvador Music-Hall et compagnie, De l'autre côté du miroir, Le plus grand cabaret du monde,  Primadona, La télé de Sébastien, Les Années Bonheur

Dans le métier, Stéphane Hourteillan est ce qu'on appelle : un mercenaire, un pro dont on est sûr de la qualté de la prestation. Dans l'arène de la musique et dans l'ombre d'immenses artistes depuis un moment déjà.

Découvrir son album "Hommage à l’unité de mesure du temps" n'est pas une surprise pour les journalistes de SHOW-MAG qui suivent et observent en silence le cheminement de certains artistes exceptionnels en devenir. Pour Stéphane Hourteillan, cet album magnifique n'est que la continuité de l'ordre naturel des choses.

Il était normal que tôt ou tard, Stéphane Hourteillan, finisse par nous proposer sa propre musique, son propre univers. Et honnêtement, on est très agréablement surpris et on se dit, mais pourquoi ne l'a-t-il pas fait avant ?

Nous sommes surpris par la couleur et la puissance des compositions mais aussi par les arrangements toujours très rock. Interpellés par les mots aussi, par les sons des mots qui font sonner la langue française presque à l'anglo-saxonne. Le duo Hourteillan-Lapèze traduit à travers cet opus et dans le cadre de la musique rock du XXIème siècle, l'image du ying et du yang, une complémentarité presque idéale où la voix de l'un chante les mots de l'autre, en leur donnant une large dimension.

L'album d'Hourteillan proposé dans un magnifique petit livret cartonné, ne peut être écouté qu'avec attention. Et là, vous découvrez cette voix rocailleuse à la Peter Gabriel où chaque titre vous donne envie d'écouter le suivant. D'ailleurs pourquoi ne pas le dire, cet album a une couleur Peter Gabriel dans sa réalisation, dans le choix des ingrédients instrumentaux et dans l'identité vocale de Stéphane.

Un travail de haut niveau et de grande qualité. Cet album est sans nul doute à classer parmi les meilleures découvertes de ces deux dernières années.

Sur cet album, Stéphane le multi-instrumentiste, a assuré le chant, la batterie, les guitares, les arrangements, la production et la réalisation. Avec Laurent Lapèze il participe à la conception graphique. Une aventure musicale collective qui implique aussi des musiciens de haut niveau comme José Rodriguez, Raphaël Bréda,Tony Amouroux, Pascal Puybonnieux, Daniel Grosso, Christophe Mouly ainsi que Laurent Fournier, Loïc Hénaff, sans oublier Patricia Hourteillan.

Hommage à l’unité de mesure du temps présenté sous la forme d’un livret DVD est vendu directement sur son MySpace. Cet album n’est en effet qu’une étape car le véritable but de tout ce travail est bien d'aboutir à la scène, en sachant que l’univers entrevu y gagnera  une dimension supplémentaire.

Il s'agit à présent de passer à la phase suivante des opérations. Donner à cet artiste de grand talent la possibilité de rencontrer un plus large public. Et pour cela des associés, des partenaires, des attachés de presse, des distributeurs, des e-distributeurs et des producteurs sont les bienvenus.

Pour ce qui nous concerne, nous journalistes de SHOW-MAG.NET, croyons très fort en Stéphane Hourteillan. Il réunit tous les talents et toutes les qualités pour être reconnu partout où il se produira. Son CV impressionnant est la meilleure garantie qu'il est d'ores et déjà, en mesure de proposer des concerts de grande qualité.

Si les tourneurs ont encore un peu d'oreille, ils le comprendront vite. Alors même si le métier est en crise, il y a parfois des artistes qui méritent toutes les prises de risques. Stéphane Hourteillan est de ceux-là.

Stéphane Hourteillan : from the shadow to the light….

Stéphane Hourteillan is far from being unknown in his profession. He started playing drums at the age of 15 and went to the Conservatoire National de Toulouse in 1988 when he was 19.

In 89 he played in a jazz quintet and performed 4 years running at the Marciac jazz festival. He created, with some childhood friends, his first group in which he learnt to compose and to play the guitar. In 91-94 he took part in various experiments in circus bands with Carmino d’Angelo. He met Romain Humeau with whom he formed the group “JE” which became in turn “Oobick and the pucks” and then “Eiffel”, and hit the rock scenes in the Midi-Pyrénées and in Aquataine. In 94 he was awarded a gold medal in both classical percussion and jazz drumming by the CNR in ....Toulouse..... At the end of 94 he met René Coll who invited him to join his orchestra. At the same time, in 97 he joined the group “Soul Machine” (funk rock) and in 99-2000 he formed the trio “Trias” with Jean ..Marie.. Averseng and Laurent David

In 2002-2003 he discovered his friend Laurent Lapèze’s writings and that opened up the possibility for him to use all the ideas and compositions that had gathered at the bottom of his drawers. It was only possible to have a culture that was principally Anglo-Saxon express itself in his language having discovered Lauren’s texts. “To put, in the best way, their intensity back into context by singing them myself was a challenge and a joy” he said.

So he got to know a little about computer assisted music and then started several sketches. At the same time he put a lot of effort into different groups, these being: “le Big Band Brass de Toulouse” (Nicole Croisille , Didier Lockwood, Michel Leeb) “Cap Horn’s” a brass ensemble and “Soul Eleven” a funk band..

During these last 15 years with the René Coll orchestra he has taken part in numerous TV programmes such as “C'est chaud”, “Fa Si La Chanter”, “Sacrée Soirée”, “Miss France”, “Tapis Rouge”, “Trente ans de scène de Patrick Sébastien”, “Sur un air de fête à l'Olympia”, “Henry Salvador Music-Hall et compagnie”, “De l'autre côté du miroir”, “Le plus grand cabaret du monde”,  “Primadona”, “La télé de Sébastien”, “Les Années Bonheur”....

In his trade, Stéphane Hourteillan is what you would call a professional, someone you can count on for the quality of his work. He’s been on the music scene and in the shadow of some immense stars for quite some time.

The discovery of his album "Hommage à l’unité de mesure du temps" was not a surprise to the journalists at SHOW-MAG because they follow and quietly observe the progress of some exceptional artists as they constantly evolve. For Stéphene Horteillan, this superb album is only the continuation of the natural order of things.

It was natural that, sooner or later, Stéphane Hourteillan would end up offering us his own music, his own universe. And honestly we were very agreeably surprised and we asked ourselves, but why hasn’t he done this before?

We were surprised by the colour and the power of the compositions but also by the arrangements which are all very “rock”. We were also bowled over by the words, by the sound of the words which make the French language sound almost Anglo-Saxon. The Hourteillan-Lapéze duo convey through this work, and in the context of 21^st century rock music, the image of ying and yang, with the voice of one complementing almost ideally the words of the other, and giving them their proper importance.

Hourteillan’s album comes in a super little hardback book, and should be listened to carefully. And there you will discover this rugged voice, similar to Peter Gabriel’s, where each track will make you want to listen to the next. Moreover, let’s admit it, this album has a flavour of Peter Gabriel in its production, in the choice of the instrumental mix and Stéphane’s style of singing.

A work of a high standard and of great quality, this album is, without any doubt, among the best discoveries of the last two years.

On this album the versatile Stéphane sung, played the drums and the guitars, wrote the arrangements, produced and directed. With Laurent Lapèze he was involved in the graphic design. This is a musical joint venture which also involved top rate musicians such as José Rodriguez, Raphaël Bréda, Tony Amouroux, Pascal Puybonnieux, Daniel Grosso, Christophe Mouly as well as Laurent Fournier, Loïc Hénaff, and not forgetting Patricia Hourteillan.

This album is, in effect, only a first stage because the real aim of all this work is to launch Stéphane onto the scene, knowing that the music world will glimpse here another dimension that can be gained.
