You people are all pretty closed minded; why does it matter what "kind" of people like this album? Why can't you just enjoy a good tune from your favorite band and not be so concerned about other people, or the "cool factor"? If the population who generally hasshitty taste in music get into sweet bands, that sure seems like a success to me, because it means I can get excited with more people about my favorite band, and expose them to the albums of theirs that first got ME into them, and those albums may turn out to really mean something to them, too.

That a band like animal collective, who is pretty experimental, can become popular just means the world is opening up their ears and diversifying what's mainstream, which is a good thing. Unless you knew animal collective from day one (which I doubt any of us have, unless you're close personal friends) you were a "hop on" fan at some point , too, whether if it was during Sung Tongs or Campfire Songs. This is how the Beatles became popular, and Bob Dylan, and Radiohead, and they are all awesome despite how "mainstream" they are. Why is it a contest about who knows the most obscure bits and pieces? Come on, now.

MPP is a VERY accessible album, it is hardly experimental, especially compared to oh say Spirit They're Gone, Here Comes the Indian, and Danse Manatee. It's annoying when these little "bros" come in and say "hell yeah bro, its so tight trippin to this bro sport song" They don't know how to appreciate the music, and they really think they are cool because they listen to something a bit different(mpp) but if they tried AC's earlier work(which is the best) they would be completely turned off.

Wes - fair enough, MPP it's definitely not as experimental as earlier stuff, but in comparison to what's popular now, (say Hannah Montanna), it is, is all I'm saying. and I bet you think you're really much cooler because you like animal collective's early stuff, huh? :) Some people don't like noise, they like pop music. If they're not really into the band, they'll fall off eventually, after the hype is over, and we can all get back to complaining about something else besides people we don't like liking the bands we like.

No, I really don't think I'm cool, I just feel this certain sense of anger. It's like you have this really cool friend and for a few years people don't really give him attention then he starts making cheap jokes and all these douches start hanging around him talking about how great he is. You seem like you are an original fan, I'm sure you've gotten that feeling once or twice, haha. Anyway, sometimes I just need to vent, you're right though, MPP is a great album and is much better than all the other shit thats being put out now. It's just tough to see everyone start to discover them!

Anger is a secondary emotion. It's used to cover up what's really going on. Which, in your case, it sounds like you feel betrayed that this (false) sense of entitlement isn't really panning out the way you feel you deserve it to.

Stop letting other people's actions and opinions control your personal serenity, and the world becomes a much easier place in which to live.

i dont get why people get so angry that other people listen to the same music you do..
the whole reason for listening to such a great band is personal enjoyment... right..?
who cares if poppy people like MPP.. why should that make you SO angry. get real people. honestly.
ANYWAY
looking forward to this single. after seeing them twice this summer with all the new great songs (WCWAR redone, what would i want sky, and GRACE) I can tell this single is going to be amazing. i know i'll be going to see them numerous more times in my life. :)
