I just saw some pictures on cnn.com of Christian monks brawling in Jerusalem. In composition, it looked a lot like some of Trent's photos of hard-core shows.

via the Wikipedia:

"In 1935... it became important for Marxists to have an exact definition of "fascism" in order to determine precisely whom they were fighting. "

And while I'm in the neighborhood, I'd like to note that--while many pundits like to claim that the other side doesn't even know what "fascism" means--the way that I most often hear "fascism" used (correctly, as near as I can tell) is in the sense that Eco defines it.

"The symposium was entitled ‘24’ and America’s Image in Fighting Terrorism: Fact, Fiction, or Does It Matter? Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who participated in the discussion, praised the show’s depiction of the war on terrorism... He went on, 'Frankly, it reflects real life.'"

In October the Washington Post reported that Colin Powell had endorsed Obama for Prez. Against my better judgement, I read most comments readers had left. This was my favorite:

"I used to respect Colin Powell. He lost my respect by proving he is nothing more than a racist, a radical, and a socialist.

"We sit on the verge of losing all of our freedoms as the freak-show ultra-liberal socialists tear apart our country.

"God help us all if we put a terrorist in the White House."
