http://www.normanrecords.com/records/110630A Norman Records recommendation (16th September 2009)What we say about Les Biches, by Cursillistas
This record left our Brian feeling ecstatic.
Cursillistas
Les Biches is a two year old experimental psych-folk treat that's been
rescued from impending obscurity and ever increasing rarity by that
lovely old Time-Lag lot along with L'animaux Tryst (Field) Recordings
who've done a damn impressive job of repackaging what was, in reality,
an incredibly limited release numbering a mere 66 copies over cassette
& 3" CDr! They've even replicated the original string & button
hand constructed sleeves on the delicious vinyl for this deluxe reissue
of eerie, meandering space drone & cracked acid-fried freestyle
folk. 'Bag of Feathers' is the fourth track and is totally amazing,
like one of those blinding Animal Collective harmony drenched space pop
experiments on 'Spirit they've gone'. Then there's some fun to be had
with xylophones and bent shards of heavily manipulated guitar whilst
vocals drift drowsily all over the shop like drunken clouds. There's
twatted, hazy porch folk and smudged komische experiments too, Side 2
being largely stuffed with absolutely fascinating & relatively
brief sketches that have utterly convinced me to purchase this curious
release for myself & investigate further. Ace!
