...for some reason I'm doing this.

So

A picture is worth a thousand words.
One taste, a thousand pictures.

Right away you know a "picture" could mean any art. Music, dance, food, visual, comedy. No amount of words could satisfactorily describe a song, or why an episode of Seinfeld is so funny. That seems obvious. But also, the more you look at things the more it seems like anything can be done in a way that raises it to the level of art. Sex, sports, conversation, back rubs, high fives. Any activity has the potential to be artful. And no amount of talking about it could ever fully recreate it. In fact, it seems like the best way to convey something through words is to talk about something else. Metaphors, exaggeration, and outright lies. That's when talking becomes poetry, raises it to the level of art.

Art happens when you do something in a way that touches something indescribable. Something that is worth "a thousand" words--but actually an infinite number. Words are useless at that point. But words could do that, sometimes words can touch something indescribable. But even then no amount of more words could ever fully describe what it was that those first words touched.

That's why the best way to talk about it is to talk about something else. Great writers talk and talk, but the thing they're really trying to convey to you isn't what they're talking about at all. That's how you know this blog sucks, because I'm talking about the thing I'm talking about.

Anyway, the second thing is the taste. If "art" touches something that can't be described with an infinite number of words, a taste can't be described with all the artful things across the universe. So what's a taste? I guess it's that thing that keeps being touched. But instead of just hinting at it, a taste would be the actual experience of it. A thousand artful things can touch it the way that a nice little paragraph of words can sorta kinda describe a beautiful photograph.

So it seems like the best thing to do is to play music, tell jokes, give high fives, and do everything else as artfully as possible in an attempt to at least start to touch that thing. And the other thing to do is to not talk about it.

Boners.
