The Free Candy Sessions Celebrates 6 years of free live music sessions in October 2009
The History

The free candy collective began in July 2003 in the Liquid Lounge, Glasgow as a monthly gig by four Glasgow musicians looking for somewhere to play their own music, free.
By October 2003 the collective was playing fortnightly on Saturdays.  After Christmas the collective went weekly due to the volume of artists wanting to perform.
After a successful run until July 2004, the free candy collective had a well earned rest for the summer.
Proceedings resumed from 16th Oct 2004 until 18th Dec 2004.
We resumed the Free Candy Sessions on the 17th Feb 2005 at The Liquid Ship,Great Western Road. Glasgow.  February 2008 will see The Free Candy Sessions celebrating 3yrs at The Liquid Ship.
In January 2006 we started a new Tuesday night in The Liquid Ship to run along with our  regular Thursday session.
On 4th May 2007 the Free Candy Sessions staged its first Friday night session at The Liquid Ship.
Over the years The FCS has played host to over 200 acts at more than 300 free gigs, featuring brand new acts to the scene and well established acts promoting new CD's or just dying to play at Glasgow's best acoustic night.
Notably, established acts who have played at the FCS over the years are Frightened Rabbit, Tommy Reilly, Mike Scott (The Waterboys), Dave Sharp (The Alarm), Geoff Martyn (ex Travis), endor, No1 son, The Fortunate Sons, Lou Hickey, The State Broadcasters, Eoghan Coghlan, Larry Guild  and many more.
Along with many performers from all over the UK, there have also been a number of overseas acts who have graced to cellar at The Liquid Ship, including acts from Iceland, France, Poland, USA, Canada and Australia.
Essentially though, the FCS is about new and up coming acts, a place to see new talent as it develops and grows.
The fact that we have been running for 4 years is a testament to the people involved in organising the shows and proof that there is an appetite for free live music, staged professionally, in an industry dominated by huge festivals and stadium gigs.
The vision of Colin and Carol Clydesdale (Liquid Ship owners), the determination of Dochan MacMillan and Patrick Monaghan to stick to their own idea on how the FCS should be run, the performers who have played and of course the punters who come along and support the sessions make the FCS unique amongst many other live sessions that have come and gone over the last 4 years.
The Free Candy Sessions @ The Liquid Ship are every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Its free entry every time and the shows start at 8.30pm.
