Current mood:hurried

Not to sounds like a spokes person for PETA, but you really need to read between the lines on this website http://petakillsanimals.com/index.cfm and see that just as much, if not more, of it is incorrect, over exaggerated or out right wrong when compared to PETA's website. The main difference is that PETA's goal is to stop animal suffering while this websites goal is to put down, discredit and berate an organization that is trying to end suffering, all be it by misguided means at times.

http://petakillsanimals.com/index.cfm

Below is just some of the nonsense on this site:

When terrorists struck on September 11, 2001, PETA issued a press release emphasizing the "animals left orphaned" and the dogs and cats in nearby buildings who would be "highly traumatized." The press release berated Mayor Giuliani for his "poor record when it comes to animals" and urged him expend time, energy, and human resources "to set up a task force to locate and rescue animals" at Ground Zero.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS STATEMENT? THE ANIMALS THAT WERE LOST DURING THIS ATTACK SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THEIR OWNERS, JUST AS THE HURRICANE KATRINA PET RELOCATION EFFORT DID! OBVISOULY THIS WAS SIMPLY A REQUEST FOR THE MAYOR TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND TRY TO HELP GET THE ANIMALS BACK TO THEIR OWNERS!

When Newkirk heard that Palestinian militants had strapped explosives to a donkey in the hopes of exploding it in a crowded Jerusalem street, she faxed a letter to Yasser Arafat, pleading with him to "leave the animals out of it."

AGAIN, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS? THIS IS A GOOD THING!

Bruce Friedrich, PETA's "vegan campaign director" and third-in-command added, "It would be great if all the fast-food outlets, slaughterhouses, these laboratories and the banks who fund them exploded tomorrow."

I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE!!!!!!!!

From July 1998 through the end of 2004, PETA killed over 12,400 dogs, cats, and other "companion animals" -- at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That's more than five defenseless animals every day. Not counting the dogs and cats PETA spayed and neutered, the group put to death over 85 percent of the animals it took in during 2003 alone.

FINALLY, I TOTALLY SUPPORT THE EUTHANIZATION OF UNADOPTABLE/UNSOCIALIZEABLE HOMELESS ANIMALS. THERE IS NO WAY TO POSSIBLY FIND EVERYONE A GOOD HOME. AND IF THE UNADOPTABLE ONES THAT ARE TAKEN IN BY SHELTERS ARE NOT EUTHANIZED HUMANELY TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE ONES THAT CAN BE ADOPTED, EVEN MORE ANIMALS WILL SUFFER. IT'S A TERRIBLE SITUATION, BUT UNTIL PEOPLE START TAKING RESPONSIBILY FOR THEIR PETS AND LOCAL STRAY ANIMALS, THIS WILL BE THE UNFORTUNATE REALITY.

The bottom line is that the people running this site http://petakillsanimals.com/index.cfm

have no better, and in my opinion a worse motivation, than PETA. What and who are they helping? NO COMPANY IS PERFECT! But at least PETA has a goal of helping animals and many do get helped…far more than get hurt.

I know what you mean, it can be disappointing to see what PETA does sometimes. However, I must say that I view that organization as a means to an end. By that I mean, they have done a lot of good, saved many animals, and really have helped to make advances for animal rights.

By the way, we need to get some veg. food again soon!

there are two sides to every story. isn't there a famous quote/saying "the winners write history"
i am sure the south has a different view of Sherman's 'glorious' march through the south....
unfortunately this site is trying to make a point, but they are simply stating things and not backing them up very well.
like bruce friedrich's comment about blowing-up the fast food joints, etc. i am sure he doesn't mean "and all the innocent kids, seniors, single moms, etcetcetc working there to make $5.15 an hour should perish as well! muahahahaaaaa!" but, as many reporters often do, they use the exerpt of the text/speech/interview that benefits their purpose or particular slant on the story.
i do think that some vegan/animal rights sites are guilty of this as well, the more reputable ones do tend to back up sayings with actaul research and statistics, but i have seen many that are guilty of just saying something for shock value and when you research it on your own you realize that they are only giving part of the information.
i saw an ad on the bus yesterday that said "50% of african american children are aborted" they did include where they got that information, but there was no information on how many white, asian, or latina people had abortions. or what age group had them, or why.

basically i am trying to say that almost everything should be taken with a grain of salt and often the only way to get an unbiased opinion on anything is to try and find out both sides of the story for yourself. (but who has time....)

even NPR is known to have a more liberal slant on things...

I understand and agree with you. As I said, you really need to read between the lines and realized that both sites are probably lacking in factual evidence. However, I do feel its worth pointing out that while PETA uses sensationalism and publicity to better the existence of many animals, the other site is simply trying to criticize and discredit PETA for only money or publicity, neither of which do I have any respect or empathy for.
