I missed these guys the first time around because I was just a bit too young to be aware of them and it's not like they were getting any airplay or anything.  Last night I had a dream come true seeing them at one of my favorite venues in one of my favorite cities: The Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, PA.  To kick it off Bela Fleck and the Flecktones came out of semi-retirement to open for them.  They played an hour of their inovative eclectic, banjo-led fusion that was truly enjoyable. I had seen them before in Wake Forest a few years ago and they did not disapoint.  Then came the experience I had been waiting for.  Now, I've seen each of these virtuosos play solo over the years, Al Dimeola and Stanley Clarke several times, but to see them all together on one stage playing the songs they did back in the day was a real thrill for me.  It really was a group of old friends getting together for a wonderful time they decided to share with 5,000 or so of their other friends and admirers.  Kudos to them for doing it and much gratidude from me for being able to catch them.
