Untamed Philadelphia presents “Untamed Thoughtsâ€: Album Review Jan. 2006
We are Hiphop!! It’s Soul Power Baby!! We don’t die, we multiply!! Can’t nobody hide the Light of Untamed Philly and Untamed Tongues!! This collection of thoughts and rhythms is a pure vibration of Hiphop immortality. This album is a fusion of all flavas of poetry, music, funk, blues, jazz, lyricism, rhymes, beats, spirit, character, and the lessons of life. We are blessed by the Untamed thoughts and tongues of Untamed Philadelphia. As soon as I put the first track on, I entered a journey of passion and heart, rebellious fire, and cleansing healing flows. I am not the same after listening to this C.D.! I’m revived!!! I felt the words, the beats, and the meaning gave me a spiritual surge equivalent to Universally mystic elevation. Raw and Divine. Beautiful and Ugly. Real and Imagined. Old and New. Without Beginning, Without End. This compilation is on some Renaissance type sh**. This album is a testament to the unmovable, unshakable core we have in the Hiphop generation; a core movement of real artists that unite off the cuff while mixing inspiring ill vibes to pour into our collective consciousness to redeem ourselves….and that’s all an understatement because words can’t even represent our whole right brain…
As soon as the intro track comes on you feel the mouthwatering roots of Hiphop. Boom Bap beats…true slang…jivin’, ease, comfort, relaxation, havin’ fun and the charisma of these artists about to put it across like it never took any work, as if it were as easy as breathing…Then, the first track by Swayyah was “I Am A Lyricist†This track speaks for itself and would make fake rappas, pop roaches, and wack poets wanna crawl into a hole and hide from her. The declaration of “I Am…†is her description of reading the dictionary…her confidence as a lyricist. She twists words into shapes, ideas, and metaphors…and injects you with words dosing you with a cool smooth tapestry of style. The following track was “Save the Family†by Hendy. This brotha is the emotional glue behind every broken family, love, and relationship. He’s the emotional glue we all want, the words…if only we had these words at our fingertips to use to glue our families together or keep them from falling apart when our hearts are broken…the glue of love…he oooozes the glue of love out of his mouth like a tube-a -Supa Glue Rhymez!
And don’t you eva…eva….eva….call J-Ice a B**ch!!!! In this piece “Don’t Call Me a Bitch†J-Ice embodies the prophetic wisdom of a Goddess against a hard beat backdrop for these lost black girls who are misguided…(and brothas too)…Who better to remind us of what words mean than a Sista like J-Ice? She’s got values, self-respect, morals, and Enlightenment. Her poem makes us brothas wanna guard her with planes and tanks! We need more poems like this to get on the airwaves, so we can save our daughters and young girls from the harsh traps of this world. The next track was “Superficial Suburbia†by Bro. Train…Do I even have to describe the details of this piece?! The ghetto got issues…so does suburbia…ain’t nothing like stepping across the Brotha Train’s “Train ‘tracks’†for the clear -wake the f**k up- smack that says…“Something’s wrong with America!!!†Money doesn’t make Suburbia free from vice…need I say more…I’m thrilled!!! Track 6 was a beat interlude. After all the other inspiring pieces, it really makes you wanna flow your own sh**. Then, as a college dropout my damn self… “American Dream†touched me deeply personally. It was real, an experience of well-meaning but ignorant family decisions/advice, hypocrisy, controversy, mis-education, poverty, hope, and desire….do these Universities even “Acknowledge our Knowledge!?!†Next, was “My Black Bag,†a soulful vibe and cry for help on behalf of the Lost Tribez for us all to re-find Supreme Being. I felt warm, like I was bathing in the Sun.
“The Freedom of My Spirit†is an intoxicating dive into the realm of inebriating seduction…into the abyss of love, into the essence of a conscious sexually free sista, so often underrated, taken for granted; despite the power and pleasure of bliss she offers...it’s honest and real. “Future†is our future…I felt like I went BACK to the future listening to this track on how to escape this modern day Matrix and the beat was ill! Yo, “Rebirth of Korn,†the Grande Finale was like a Wu-Tang vibe, the Eastern Sun shining at the beginning of the track, then the Western Sun setting at the end. This helped me come down off my poetry high…After this track I knew I had traveled the Earth 360 degrees with Untamed Thoughts and now my CENTRICITY is stronger, I understand my SELF and my people more, I got some outstanding entertainment, AND I look forward to more from these artists! THE WHOLE WORLD SHOULD BUY THIS ALBUM!!! Live and let Live…The World and Word is Ours. Thank You Untamed Philly and Untamed Tongues!.....and guess what….I ain’t even gonna write nothing about the TWO bonus tracks…I’ll let that be a surprise for the masses who have yet to bathe in these rhymes and rhythms!!!
