always askin myself when carriing my recordbag whether i should play vinyl or not, but somebody told me that there was the "whole" sound on vinyl and just cut sound when digital produced - that is still the major argument for me to stay "old-skool"; at least it is a good workout... :)

Don't really buy it any more due to the expense of it compared to downloads (though I'm sad at contributing to the decline of the indie record stores in this way...) but I certainly still play it as so many of my gems are on vinyl and it's gonna take me years to transfer it all to cd!!

I think the day where CDJs are the new 1200s is coming sooner than we think...

I love vinyl but goddamn! I can't afford it anymore - otherwise I wouldn't have switched to CDs.

No ! I play mostly Cd or off a lap trop because I make most of the music I play as, for the Dj couterpart in our sets, well he plays as many records as he can because he loves the sound and touch but once again we cant afford to put ALL of our music on to vinyl and I think this is the reason he is asking the same question. I think vinyl will become more valuable soon but harder to sell. Tough descisions to be made for releases. Collectors will always buy vinyl so just keep making tunes like you do and Dj's will keep collecting them.

no i don't - only cds - and expecting the time where there will be a good HDD controller in each club i go that you can plug a usb drive to. i think the right question would be : do you still buy vinyl ? and yes i do ! there is no real entertaining way (yet) to shop MP3...

You can still find the classics on vinyl but in terms of new music, most of the f*ckin distributors are closed here in the US and Europe. The man is making it impossible to play the new tracks I want on vinyl so I've switched to digital. The huge added bonus is that I re-edit nearly every new track I play so I never play the same track as any other DJ.

Still play it....but i rather play music than just vinyl...for me it's the music and not the format...try djing with a tape deck-THAT'S OLD SCHOOL!!!!!! Did anyone here under the age of 20 ever played a party with a dual boom box and the pause buttons?!?!that's how i started and i think concentrating on WHAT u play instead of being some purist is always better...BUT: older shit does sound better on reocrds.new stuff recorded digitially on pc or mac sounds slightly better on cd but it also depends on the soundsystem blah blah blah.any thing with guitars gets lost on cd....and most people just want to hear some music...that's why we are here-couse they want to hear it....

yes i play only vinyl ! sometimes it´s hard, because a vinyl is more expansive then a mp3 or wav download, and i spend a lot of money for my vinyl... - vinyl kills the mp3 industry -

i hope so

i feel that the "vinyl vs. ableton or serrato" debate overshadows a larger question of... is playing songs and beatmatching the high art form that some might believe it is?

BADS LABEL LARHON RECORDINGS

..Playing songs.. & ..(simple) beatmatching ..IS NOT the high art form...
THATS the problem, most have no idea about it.
The art form is THE MIX.
What one does to thee song (as it plays), what one does to thee songs as they both play.

ANY one can PLAY songs, and just about any idiot can learn to beatmatch,
AND I WILL ADD and too many assholes learned
the bottom EQ button is BASS and they take it out and put it in.
AND THEY TAKE IT OUT, AND THEY PUT IT IN
(Repeat 3 or 4X per record) OHH GOLLY GEE, a wizard on turntables?  NOT!
...a PAIN in the ass!

So we have been smashed with talentless, no idea or clue about
THE ART Form ..record players.. insisting they R djs.
(Look & LISTEN...) where ever U are!!!

------------------------------------------------
And Abe?  About the vinyl?  NOW & 4EVER!
I do play more and more CDs...and U can be sure ALL CDs played in a BAD set
is music from anywhere & anyone thats HOT and NOT on vinyl...so I play em!!

The question that needs to be asked is HOW WE MAKE RECORDS?  Got to get the costs down of manufacturing...
Print and press a few 100 pieces of plastic.          disc mastering, cutting, pressing...done.
Print and press a few 100 digital compact discs... local electronic store, home computer, cd burner...done.
Its almost fair to say:  Its NOT fair.   long live vinyl.  & the ART form of DJing!

The Prince Of Dance

THE ART OF DJing.  Like Michael, will it GO away...fade away...for reasons most due to misuse and abuse?
writer unknown

PS...I do know the writer, but I aint sayin!
