Today is a travel day. We are driving back to the sweet, sunny, South from Pennsylvania. Here's a synopsis so far of our tour: We started off in Clemson, playing for a full bar of drunk coeds. Go Tigers! From there we headed to the ATL for a show with our friends Ancient Harmony. It was good to see them and a pleasure to have Tony G sit on keys with us again. After Atlanta, we turned north and headed to Nashville for a night off. Wes Powers has been playing drums for us on this tour, and we were stoked to stay at his house in Nashville on our night off. We enjoyed some fresh cucumbers from the garden and some homemade Rhubarb wine. Ward and I scanned the paper and saw that fellow Charleston band, Leslie, was playing in Nashville. So off we went to salute our brothers in rock. Sadler melted our faces with his guitar playing and moves, and it was good to see the Nashville crowd recognize Leslie's raw power. With ringing ears we headed to the rolling hills of Kentucky for a private party. Our friends Somer and Shawn put on a great time, and we loved playing for the soy fields again. Another day off found us touring the Makers Mark distillery and sampling some fine Kentucky bourbon. Very educational! Hit or Miss (Ward and Joel side-project) picked up a side gig in Bardstown, KY and Rusty joined us on bass: HIT! From Kentucky we headed North for three shows in Ohio. We had a ball seeing old friends and making new ones. A highlight was performing on the patio at Arnold's in Cincinnati (city's oldest bar). We avoided wind damage from the remnants of Hurricane Ike, but some weren't so lucky. One our way out of Ohio we saw trees uprooted, roofs damaged, power outages and corn husks flying across the hwy. Monday night found us at one of our favorite spots: The Purple Fiddle in Thomas, WV. Part coffee house, corner store, restaurant, bed and breakfast, and music venue, The Purple Fiddle is truly a treat for the touring musician. Local drummer Jared Roy joined us for an energetic show. The last two nights have been in Williamsport, PA, where we played a two-night stand at a fun college bar: Kimballs. We love Williamsport and Williamsport seems to love us right back. Today we are headed south but transmission troubles have slowed us down. We are hoping to make Floyd, VA tonight for some sleep before continuing on to Greenville, SC for a show at Gottrocks on friday. Stay tuned for more shows and adventures...the train rolls on.
