Current mood:  annoyed

Words mean alot to me. This word is not in my vocabulary. I am a person first. When you hear the music, you're listening to the artist and the person cause ain't no frontin. Whatcha see is whatcha get. Kill the N word.

Thank you for this, SCEF!  You are so right.  If more people would actually see this, then we could eliminate the use of the word altogether.  In no way does this word to me say 'unification' or 'brother/sisterhood'.  I was taught by my stepgrandmother that the 'n' word is someone who is ignorant and disrespects him/herself and others.  May God rest her soul, she was right and it's one lesson I've never forgotten.  Thank you again, SCEF.

Yeah the N word is gettin pretty played out.

I teach 7th graders and several times I have had to redirect young black people from saying the N word in front of other ethnicities.  I have to stop them and tell them not to call each other that because if someone in this room who is not black said the N word...they would be ready to go to war.

But they still don't get it...

You are so right, but to the music industry it is all about getting paid.  So many have actually sold their souls for the thing called greed.

Television and music are two major sources by which people obtain fashion (verbiage, clothing, hairstyles) and therefore it becomes imperative that artists understand and take responsibility for how they are not only impacting society, but how they are representing the hip hop culture. Additionally, an artist should be able to make their point without cursing or using the N word...unless they are lacking the creativity to do so. Too many people have abused the right of freedom of speech and taken it to extreme levels to benefit their bank accounts. Artists should have more respect for their craft! I’ve heard some argue that “the word” is a term of endearment…which is equally absurd as females calling one another bitches to convey the same.
