First off- RIP to Capt Lou Albano-a big part of the 80s wrestling crossover Rock and Wrestling Boom- appearing in music videos for pop star Cyndi Lauper and managing NRBQ- Albano was an in ring competitor for years- then he parlayed his promo ability to be get over other talents and be a manager for championship tagteams.I was in the same room as the Captain during Mania 23- he was the legend on hand for the local sports bar showing Mania- he seemed nice from a distance- but I admit I did not do the meet and greet since I did not have the 20 bucks needed for the markout moment-actually none of that is important- Captain Lou's charisma helped propel wrestling and WWF to the national spotlight and he was a true original that will be missed

Probably the man who first really introduced me to the professional wrestling universe. Saturday afternoons with my father watching WWF, not to mention Albano's many crossover endeavors from music videos to features films and children's television programs, pretty much helped define my teenage years. Plus that whole rubber band in the cheeks thing is so punk rock.

TNA Bound For Glory 2009

For an event marketed as thier main PPV of the year- this felt anti-climatic- I think AJ should have been chasing Sting going into the PPV- but oh well- I don't have the book for TNA.This was a solid PPV that had a strong crowd and tons of crazy bumps and some solid matches- I think Daffney and Daniels are tied for crazed spots of the evening- Daniels looked like he landed on his head during the Ultimate X match and Daffney was slammed thru a table covered in barbed-wire-once again she looked like a broken zombie after that spot. There was some awkward moments during the PPV-including a moment that seemed like Tara wanted to charge a crowd member that she said kicked her and a terrible botched 2 count during the Abyss/Foley Monster's Bawl match.
I think the comedy moment of the night was Earl Hebner kissing Lacey Von Erich.
For the last year it seemed like TNA wanted to destroy Samoa Joe- did not matter tonight- the cali crowd was solidly behind Joe and spent a good amount of the match booing Bobby Lashley- who seemed at a loss- yes he won the match- but he had no clue how to work the crowd-so his win felt like a huge letdown-once again escaping the iMPACT zone was great- because the wrestlers were not protected by audio editing- Lashley is so 2007 - he has the look - but his lack of promo and charisma make him an underwhelming presence.
The crowd did markout for most of the old school spots like the spin-a-rooni and frankenstiener -but the crowd also supported wrestlers like Amazing Red.
The set did not have that special big event feel to it- the last 2 matches- Angle v Morgan and Sting v AJ were ok matches- but neither felt like the main event. My favorite matches of the night were the X-Division match, the Tag Title match and the Abyss vs FOley match- the knockout matches all felt like iMPACT filler. Was it worth the 40 bucks- probably not- was it worth the 3 hours-sure- it was a an engaging card- and the roster worked hard- but in the end this PPV lacked any memorable lasting moments.
