Current mood: determined Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
Contrary to rumour, we're not out: just down...as in down-time, with the odd gig in between. It's not that we don't loves you, just that we're working on a new record. And by record, we mean the REAL needles-and-spins type of ale-pee record, just like mom and dad used to make (out to)! Okay, maybe that's not the image you needed while surfing the net. Too bad, hodad. Back to the porn sites with you!
Expect the usual 60s covers and a ragtag band of Midways "not-so-originals" to stack this promised platter. If it's all the same to you, we want to brew up a big bouncy baby, so people don't rag on us for skittin' 'em with a bitty 12 tracks on a CD gizmo that could potentially hold 70 minutes of rock operatics, like we did last time. Since it took Zeus something like 11 days of bonkin' with his missus to forge a child as mighty as Hercules, it'll take us a while to cough up this yet-untitled oeuvre (we were thinking "Nightflight to Uranus," but what if NASA sues?).
So play your sphincters some New Age ocean-wave sounds, light an aromatherapy candle, and shift into low gear: this party favour's gonna take some time in the oven before it's ready. The real excitement for us (and the reason we don't wanna blow it) is that the record's coming out on the Screaming Apple label from Köln, Germany, which is enough to make us eau-de-cologne our pants! We're looking forward to sharing a label with some of the best bands out there, and maybe playing a bierstübe or two on the other side of the puddle. Deutschland über alles! (Can we say that?)
In the meantime, we're making efforts to blast outta Dodge-oronto and crunch crania in the more nether regions of the province, testing out new material and falling back on the old stuff when things get sketchy. Kitchener, Hamilton, Guelph, Oshawa and London: are you listening? Of late we had the unscripted pleasure of gigging with two bands we never knew about but now find essential: The Ride Theory and The Machines, both from the Not-so-Golden Horseshoe area. More gigs like that, please. As for Montreal, we love you too but so long as the Lear's up on blocks, we might have to consummate our love by Purolator from here on in. Write us and let's talk.
For those new to us, you can peruse our merchandise at the "official" website, however be warned that this particular albatross has been tough for us to update, we not having any modernistical grasp of ones-and-zeros-style web authoring technology. So here we are on MySpace.
No matter; snoop around our corner and cop a peek at what our friends are doing. There's an interview with us in the latest Lost In Tyme zine from Greece (Zeus, you can pull out now), and it comes with a compilation CD packed with excellent bands, including (cough, ahem!) two unreleased tracks from yours trulies: He Was A Square by the Downliners Sect, and shavin' it close and sensitive with The Way I Feel About You, originally by the Pete Best Group.
We'll try to add demos here of new songs for your listening discomfort, and get more photos posted too. So stay tuned!
TTFN,
-The Midways
