Michael,
I was a volunteer with the ACLU at the Uncensored
Celebration on Thursday. So I wanted to thank you for being a part of
an event that I think we can all be really proud of. But, really,
aside from that I wanted to thank you specifically for your
performance. I had a chance to introduce myself to at the very end of
the evening, but to be completely honest I was so start-struck that I
wasn't nearly as articulate as I'd hoped to be. I think I managed to
get out "FUCKING FABULOUS!" before I resorted to making nervous jokes
about turning tricks for a living.
So what I really wanted to say way this:
I'd
heard about you, listened to your tracks on MySpace, and new that I was
in for a treat when you hit the stage. I'm always in love with live
shows, hip hop particularly. Anything that I can feel in my heart and
my feet definitely has my vote. You have the upper hand by being an
amazing intelligent and beautiful lyricist backed by an incredibly
talented band.
I've been to countless hip hop shows. It pumps
through my ventricles as I'm sure it does yours. I'm always blown away
by the talent I see, but there was something about your performance
that really struck me. Your voice is flawless, your rhythm and
inflection are nothing short of immaculate. It's like the rest of the
world stopped and the only thing happening was happening in that room
and on that stage.
When you did your second a cappella song (forgive
me for not knowing the name) I couldn't breathe. Couldn't move.
Blink. It was soul-melting and could have brought me to tears had I
been conscious that I or anything but your words existed.
I suppose
I'm really not getting any less vague here. Plus, I could gush for
hours about your skills. But I think it's important that you know you
are possibly the most heart-felt, talented, motivational, intelligent,
driven, conscious, invigorating, and awe-striking MC I've ever had the
pleasure of seeing.
I picked up a copy of "Thinking Out Loud" and
haven't stopped listening to it. Keep doing what you're doing, as
you're doing it so well. I'm sure I'll catch another show soon.
Peace and love,
Ruby
