Gee, thanks "Tom".

I tried to post this as a comment on your blog, the one about why you have decided to put a warning page behind every external link except for RockYou and Youtube, but my comment didn't show up.

Hmmm.

So here's what I wanted to say to you. And if by any chance you get to see this, please take a moment out of your busy schedule to read it.

I hope you will consider a way whereby people can submit links for verification that they are not phishing, after which this page can be removed.

One Click is a one-stop page collating dozens of links to free click-to-donate charity sites (the donations are paid for by sponsors).  Some of these campaigns are widely supported while others are less popular but no less deserving.  All are checked before they are included, and none ask donors for money or require sign-up.  Any suspect links are removed as soon as they are discovered.

It's my belief that given the average net-user's attention span, yet another page to click through will radically lower the number of successful click donations counted by sponsors, which will have an adverse effect on the charities who rely on these donations for their survival.

While I completely understand and endorse MySpace's drive to clamp down on phishing, the viral spread of click-to-donate charity campaigns and the resulting benefit to endangered people, animals and habitats has been a wonderfully positive spin-off from the social networking boom.  It would be a real shame if this new warning page put people off from donating.  But I fear it may. I have already had to deal with several accusations from people who clicked through, saw the word "phishing" and jumped to the wrong conclusion about my profile and my motives.

The fact is most people don't bother reading the small print even when it is not very small.

Please think about allowing these less widespread links through to your whitelist so that the charities don't lose out.

Peace
x

Update Feb 15th:

Some good news - the Hunger Site link is now whitelisted, so you can now get straight through to it with your click.  Hopefully the other sites will follow soon, but in the meantime please keep clicking through regardless.  The charities need your support as much as ever!

Thanks Tom!Insert Smiley

Not to mention... it's just annoying. : )

Meanwhile, still well worth the second click.

I continue to actively spread the word about the site.
It is one of my favorite ways to help charities without breaking my (very tiny) piggy bank.
Thank you for all that you do! Keep up all the excellent work!

For another great way to help charity for FREE, check out freerice.org.
Test your vocabulary skills (or learn new words) while donating rice to the hungry.

It is unfortunate that many people do not understand how the internet works and how to protect their account details from being phished. I understand why Tom has taken such drastic action, but it's a pity he didn't make the page a little less frightning! A simple message, on a white background saying something along the lines of "This is a link to site external to MySpace - please do not enter your MySpace log in details" might have worked better.

Then again - given, as you say, the average net-user's attention span, most people may not pay attention unless it's in big, bold, blinking red!

I actually found one-click by accident one day and have a link to the site on my myspace page. I was stoked to find out you have a myspace too. Keep up the good fight and know that you have people supporting your cause on the sidelines as well!

If it would be any kind of consolation, Any readers of this May want to send in the suggestion of Asking that your Page be featured. I asked once that the CCF page be considered as a feature page, because it was for a good cause and no shit within two weeks it was (that may have been Tom & Crew's idea but I was fairly happy thinking I might have had possible impact). It was for a good cause and You are for a good cause as well and it would help spread awareness. *Peace*

Right on, babe. And beware the new profile editor. I have just had my page destroyed by it including the link to yours. See my bulletin tonight in which I have put another link meantime which I hope my friends will use till I can get my page back in order. Must try the link to make sure it works.

Keep up the good work.
