This Sucks!!! A lot of my favorites have gone down. This is why taking your band and music seriously is so important. Before you start planning backyard and house shows here are some sucky things your local city may be doing that you should know about. Hopefully you'll understand why music venues are so important.
Many Southern California Cities are adding live band ordinances enforcing absolutely NO LIVE BANDS in city limits unless you have a permit. BUT THEN... they cap that ordinance off with the fact that they do not give out permits!! Many bands confuse the stereo typed "noise curfew" of 9pm or 10pm thinking its ok to have bands/..djs/..music/parties etc. As long as its before that time. That time curfew only applies to construction noise and other noise that disturbs the peace. So if your playing before that time and the cops come don't pull the time curfew like a moron!!
Make sure you know your City's Ordinances on Live Bands. Not all City's Ordinances are the same!!!!
IF THERE IS A BAN ON LIVE BANDS IN YOUR CITY, THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN: (I'm using the City of Rialto's Live band ordinance as an example)
You will get warned the first to complaints as long as someone makes a report but decides not to press charges. But if that same person calls 3 times the police have the right to enforce they're action to fines, arrests and equipment confiscation. But know that anyone who calls to file a noise complaint has the right to press charges. If they decide to press charges the owner where the live band is playing will get charged and arrested and they have the right to confiscate all of your equipment and you will also be fined up to $,$$$ yes thousands. If the owner is lucky enough not to get arrested he/she will get charged and an arrest will show on their record.
This is why music venues are so important. The economy is blasting music as we know it. If you really care about music take your band seriously. If you care about music support your local bands who take music seriously!!!!
BEFORE YOU JOIN A BAND MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE LITTLE GIRLFRIENDY ISSUES. IF YOU DO, EITHER GROW SOME BALLS OR TAKE UP SCRAPBOOKING WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND.
DONT START A BAND BY RECRUITING RANDOMS BECAUSE YOU HAVE AN EGO AND SO DESPERATLY WANT TO TELL PEOPLE YOUR IN A BAND.
