yh the examples are dumb lil wayne and obie are'nt really talkin about stayin quiet wen u see sum1 get jumped in the park by a random crackhead. they talkin bout gettin caught wit drugs or sumthin and then blabbin about ur supplier and evryotha crim uno jus to get urself off. like the girl sed if u see an innocent person attacked most people would cooperate( if they felt safe) and noone would really hate on them for that. would they? Hi, I'm glad someone finally recognises that maybe 'snitchin' isn't all bad. A good friend of mine was beaten to death 18mths ago and there must have been plenty of witnesses but only a few came forward. If it wasn't for one in particular, a black guy, who also tried to stop the attack, then maybe the f**kers who did it wouldn't have been caught. As it was, they were caught and are now rotting in jail for 30yrs.

I don't always agree with snitchin but people, in some cases, please think about the families involved, who have lost someone dear to them.

 

Snitchin', grassing, telling-on.....whatever - there are many ways to express the act of someone informing or passing on information that could lead to an action against another.

How serious is the act you may find yourself in the position of viewing??

You are witness to a crime, a crime of magnitude, a crime of pain or suffering to another living creature (human or animal - cruelty should not be condoned).

You can choose to remain silent or you can choose to speak out against the perpetrator. Your choice, but if you knowingly keep quite then you need to take a look into your own soul and see what it is that you are about too. There is no reward in protecting the evil out there.

No matter what you think of authority, no matter whether you are black, white, asian or a space martian with yellow polka dots - it is doing the right thing at the right time that matters more than whether your precious rep amongst so-called buddies remains intact.

Just place yourselves in an imaginary situation where a loved one is harmed and then think what is going on with the real victims families.

STOP acting up to try and be a BIG "person" - Do the right thing and if you don't know right & wring then go back to school and retake the bits you missed out on.

You will be a BIGGER person by doing what is right.

 

Don't do the revenge thing - Let the law do it's job!

I mean u explained that whole situation and yeah i do feel u on that one,as i mean yeah u would want answers, and the heartbreak on the family would be awful, i mean its like the whole busta rhymes thing, when his bodyguard got shot dead, he didnt come forward and say anything same way when styles P got run over he wouldnt call out the guy who did it, he just let it ride. I think people confuse Snitching with Police co-operation, i mean how many people do you know that have been fucked over by the police? I have. and i dont want to make there job any easier ever. They should be doing the hard work behind the crimes anyways.

Where i think the snitching u refer to comes from is more when u have a crew of friends, all up to no good, watever that may be, and then when he gets caught, to save himself hed snitch. and thats where obies line "u asked for the life your living" comes from. I dont think that anyone should snitch in that situation, take your punishment like a man. If the judge throws the book at you take it and read it, then u might learn from your mistakes instead of naming names and going out like a rat. Selling out people who have stood by your side for YOUR OWN fuck up? Nah thats WRONG...]

Im not saying that innocent bystanders should be intimidated into keeping kwiet but same way how many innocent bystanders get beaten to death,get shot for NO REASON WATSOEVER,or get caught up in a situation that is gonna have no happy ending? the News makes angels out of Villans. dont ever belive everything u hear.Let the hood deal with the hoods problems.

If, like the majority of rich people you don't have the wills/means/links to dish out your own justice, grass to the next people who will apparently, try their best, to solve the issue and punish the criminal, eg, the Police

So, to me, if a proper wrong has been done (Rape, kiddie fiddling, murdering of innocents) and you know who done it, sort em out...

I dont know if its right to regard it as 'snitching' when you are reporting a crime, unless of course it was a family member or your close friend who commited it. If you are a witness to a murder/ rape/ something horrible its you're duty as a human being to help get the perpatrator of the street before the do it again and mess up yet another family, yet another community.

I know some people see the police as the enemy and dont feel they should do anything that 'makes their jobs any easier' but you aint doing it to help them, you should be doing it to help the person who was killed/ hurt/ burgled whatever and to help their families and the communities in which the crime happened.

Dont get me wrong, I know that loads of people who end up stabbed or murdered dont lead whiter than white lives, nobody does, but they still dont deserve to have thier lives taken, whats more, many of these people who are getting hurt ARE innocent, and they deserve the TRUTH to be told about what happened, if that means you having to 'snitch' then so be it!

 

if the crime is morally wrong the it should be everyones duty to make sure that it does not happen again.... if that means snitchin then so be it ....if it means education,  support for parent, more youth clubs, better drug programs, prisons that work, then so be it.  these streets are our streets! we should try to help in what ever way we can.
 

snitching in its realest definition is supposed to be someone who was/is part of "the game" or has profited from it, in kind or favours, or protection, who then snitches perhaps to save his/her own skin. there are many reasons for this. however most of what is called snitching nowadays isnt snitching.

being a witness to a crime and reporting it isnt snitching, if you perhaps only vaguely know the people who carried it out. nor is talking to the police. those tees are quite stupid i reckon. when i saw some guy wearing it the other day i thought he was such an idiot.

agreed - freedom goes only so far as you harm no-one else in your quest for happiness. this whole 'snitch' thing is ridiculous: it patently does not work, else those 'hoods considered to be 'self-policing' would be a wonder and a marvel, and not a shame that must be hurried through with lowered eyes. vigilante justice is all well and good, but only if it is just.

many of the supposed motives for violent crimes and reprisals that i hear are the epitome of ego and vanity - i'm glad to see some people still remember that they're people first and whatever else later.

for a culture to define itself on the basis that it is the most unco-operative when danger threatens is vile, repugnant, and a compete disgrace to what evolution has supposedly raised us to. kudos to those who have the cojones to speak out!
