Mel here......... First of all, moving (especially across the country) can bring about changes in just about every way. Jana and I just LOVE Portland OR, it's beautiful. Lot's of mountains and water, just like in Lawrenceville PA, so we feel at home already. But also, there is just enough of current pop culture here to spur creativity, and start to feel like we have to stretch ourselves to keep up, something we've not felt in a while.
So........ when packing up my studio in Lawrenceville a few weeks ago, I found a CD of a song that we cut off the first record "Bittersweet", called "BITE THE HAND". It features the same great percussion team of Dave Uosikkinnen (The Hooters) and Charlie Shew (Samite of Uganda), they rocked the songs "Bittersweet" and "London Holiday" on the first record! This tune got cut only because we didn't have a clear vision of how to finish it. When I found the CD during the move, it had a completed vocal track, drums and percussion and acoustic guitar only. When I listened to it yesterday on CD that way, I could hear a synth pad under Jana's vocals........ I promptly broke out the VFX laid down a track or two, then plugged in my bass and played along with the CD.........and four hours later........... POOF! There it was! You can tell we've been listening to different music lately, as we've been pretty tired of the Pop format, and boring singer/songwriter blah blah....... we've been listening a lot to Johnette Napolatino and Kate Bush among others, if you know these artists, you can hear their influence in my four hours of work yesterday.
The song is a political statement, and we are not sorry. :)
As always, your comments are always welcome.
PEACE!
Mel
