Current mood:  hopeful
...for the first time...ever.

I watched the election day coverage for the most part alone last night. My mom stuck it out for a while but ended up sleeping for most of it...

By the time it was over, it seemed too late to call any of my friends or family. But it didn't really bother me. It seemed like such a victory for everyone (even those who believe the exact opposite) that it didn't even need to be discussed. I couldn't sleep because I just genuinely felt good.

When's the last time that you felt "good" about your president or any government official for that matter? I don't think I ever have. By the time I was old enough to care, it felt like we were just all fucked.

I woke up and walked outside to drive home and just smiled the whole time. I can't help but feel hopeful. Our problems won't be fixed in the next 4 years but I think think this is the best start we could have. And that is far beyond exciting.

Enjoy yourself, it's a celebration.

This made me feel just as ecstatic as I did last night. When I was driving in Uptown, Minneapolis today everyone was out sporting their Obama gear, cheering, laughing...there was music on the streets. It was like liberation day.
