Edgel E. Adams, 74, of Cowen died May 13, 2007, in Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born at Bergoo on Sept. 9, 1932, he was a son of the late Ralph and Phelma Blake Adams. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Howard Adams.

A retired coalminer and farmer, he attended Cottle First Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers and enjoyed bear hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Dora Jean Miller Adams of Cowen; son, Jeffrey G. Adams of Bolair; daughters, Cheryl Given of Craigsville, S. Kaye Sandy of Cowen and Shawn Carpenter of Cowen; sisters, Margie Barry of Tulsa, Okla., Ruth Gibbs of Camden-on-Gauley, June Whitney of Cottageville and Irene Addington of Cottle; and grandchildren, Brock Adams, Ashley Given, Erin Given, Chelyan Sandy and Courtney Sandy.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Cottle First Church of God, Cottle, with the Rev. Ray Wyant, the Rev. Ben Bleigh, the Rev. Keith Williams and the Rev. Harold Jones officiating. Burial will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin, with military rites.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
