Current mood:  tired
well, I just got back from a interview at CBS, and I can say after not sleeping for about 2 days and trying to sum up emotions in a 30 second interview wasn't easy, I wanted to take to my blog so I can put into words my thoughts and feelings, I find writing is best for me anyway.

First, I want to be clear on the fact, that I have NOT and will not abandon our reigning Miss California, thou I have a STRONG difference of opinion, I do NOT hate her, nor do I have any issue with her stating her opinion, she is not the first conservative christian titleholder to be in pageants. I agree with the majority that this IS what makes our country great and that is of course freedom of speech. She was asked a questioned and she answered it.

But I want to explain to the masses, what the TITLE of Miss USA stands for to me, and being a former Miss USA, I feel I have a pretty good sense of it. Miss USA travels the world and she competes at the Miss UNIVERSE pageant as a representation of her country. She is a ambassador, a role model and needs to be able to show diplomacy on all issues. sadly for California THIS is where we lost the crown. Not for her answer or even her beliefs, because again, sadly IN California her beliefs at this point in time are the majority. But she lost the crown because she wasn't able to convey compassion for ALL the people that as MISS USA she would be representing. and if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities. they are crucial in my eyes when holding a honor and title as big as being Miss USA. The panel of judges was qualified and did their job, they represented all of us, men, woman, black, white, gay and straight.

I think Miss California's willingness to stand by her convictions and ( in my eyes, simply made the question more personal then it needed to be,) has in essence made a great positive impact cause it has brought a issue important to me to the for front of the media and that is civil rights. I have blogged and petitioned for gay rights in the past and if anything positive can come out of this, It's that it has people talking and we need to have people talking and we need MANY conversations on this topic to take place, especially in the state of California and with Prop 8.

I do however want to apologize to the men and woman who have continually supported the Miss California USA pageant. I know some were hurt and felt a sense of betrayal, but I thank you for your understanding, communication, love and continued support.

shannaxoxo

And definitely someone with expierance, well put..And could not agree more, that this should not be the reason people are now questioning and shedding light on the topic,it should be addressed way before a question of a paegant contestant...

Ironic that the gay man whose question initiated all of this is someone I'm sure has been a pain in your ass on occasion, Perez Hilton.

As for all this I'm hearing, "oh, she would have won if not for her answer..." I don't buy it. She was the first runner-up. If her answer had been so fatal to her chances of winning, why is she in a position to take over the title if the winner screws up? Unfortunately, not all pageant winners have been exactly what you'd consider model citizens. She could still be Miss USA before next year. I saw Miss California, and I saw Miss North Carolina. Personally, I think Miss North Carolina was better-looking, anyway. It's still called a BEAUTY pageant, and if looks had nothing to do with it, then we wouldn't parade the participants about in swimsuits and evening gowns. Bring 'em out, ask a couple questions, and be done with it would be the modus operandi.

I agree 100% When you're representing America, you're not representing your opinion. If it was all about you and what you think, you shouldn't have been in the running anyway! Shanna no need to explain how she doesn't represent you, We already know where you stand.
We love you! Take Care! xoxo

I don't see any problem in what she said. I honestly believe we are all entitled to our own beliefs. I would have rather her told the truth even if it wasn't what certain people wanted to hear, than to have lied just to please everyone. In this life, you can't please everyone. I think she deserved to win that pageant. It is just sad that in order for her to have won she would have had to give an answer against her honest beliefs in order to please "certain people". That's a load of crap. She would have represented USA just fine. This country is, after all, founded on Christian beliefs in the first place, isn't it? Just because people are more open-minded and not as conservative as they were in the past doesn't make it wrong to BE conservative in your beliefs, as long as you respect OTHERS while voicing them, which she did....Anyways, just my opinion on this whole thing.

you said it perfect, i didnt hear exactly what she said, but this morning perez was on a nyc radio show and he was trying to say, I think, what you just said, you can tell by his voice he was angry and hurt. They sai after he got off, of course, but you asked her opinon, they took it that he didnt want her to state her opinon but just to agree with what he wanted the answer to be, but he said no there was just a way to have said it, and she is going to be in the public adn meeting with people from all over and shouldve considered that. And, also that being from CA this is a huge issue now and shouldve been more prepared to answer that question.

I don't have a huge issue with WHAT she said (although I STRONGLY disagree with her views) its the way she said it and made herself look/sound while saying.

Miss USA is something I watched EVERY year as a kid and with 3 little girls continued to do so, my kids were all dressed up and excited. Needless to say we changed the channel after the answer. She is intitled to her opinions but there are much classier way of expressing such.

I think its very big of you to post a blog. I was actually waiting for it. Even though I didn't agree with her answer I dont think people should have bashed her for speaking for what she believed in. It was very big of her to stick to what she believed in and it makes no one out there bashing her any better then what they believe in. Everyone has a right here and just because you dont agree doesnt mean she is wrong. I dislike PEREZ......

Perez Hilton has made a life out of criticizing and tearing people apart. He would have been the last person I would've alowd to even present a question let alone be a judge! He does nothing that isn't dedicated to drawing attention to his own presence.
He has survived only because of the attention people actually give to his nonsensical bullshyte!

I'm glad to hear you're not abandoning her but I'd like to point out that both Obama and Biden share her view of gay marriage. So everyone who calls her ignorant or whatever else they are saying are really saying that about them, too. I guess next year, the girls should brush up on their politically correct answers and not what they really believe.

I dont think she shouldve been called names by Perez by answering the question honestly. Freedom of speech is what we have in America and since she didnt give the answer Perez wanted, then forget her. Everyone is entitled to their own opinon and she did say it was a great country where people can choose. She shouldve just stopped there. I am glad she didnt put on a fake answer to try to win. Everyone has an opinion and you cant please everyone. If someone doesnt agree with her answer, then so be it. I believe everyone has the right to their own feeling.

"We can't have someone to represent that discriminates" That is not a proper assessment of this incident. What you mean to say is "We can't have someone represent that discriminates against people who don't agree with same sex marriage" On a topic as polarizing as this there is no way to please everyone. Either you're for it or your against it. She was penalized because of her belief.
In effect SHE was discriminated against! Where's the outrage about her and the large portion of the country that don't agree with same sex marriage being discriminated against?

So Perez Hilton can go slip in a puddle of AIDS! And how can we take anything serious that comes out of the mouth of a douche that got famous by drawing dicks and cum bubbles on pictures of Hollywood celebrities?

Yuk.

Miss California has the right to her opinion, I agree. The thing I don't understand is why was that particular question was asked in the first place? Perez Hilton is going to get all kinds of mileage out of this incident in his nasty little column. It was a loaded question, and she was damned not matter what she said, but if she had worded it differently perhaps some of the drama could have been avoided. If she had simply said something like. "Love knows no color or gender....everyone should have the right to marry the person they love" It would've satisfied the masses, and her personal feelings wouldn't have been an issue. The poor girl is taking a lot of heat.

I agree, we may all not agree with her view's or opinions, but in this country she has the right to express them! She could have in hind sight maybe worded it better. It has people talking. It is not our right to judge people but gods.
We have our beliefs, but in the end you have only one person to answer to and that is between you and your maker! I believe in the idea that god has a reason for everything, and in the end it's his call not ours!

I don't think Miss California did anything wrong. I certainly don't think she was uncompationate with her answer! She simply stated her opinion based on her conservative upbringing.
That doesn't mean she wouldn't have been quailified to hold this important position based on her view on this controversial topic! How many other conservative Miss USA's have held the crown? And have done it with class? You should take a look @ past Miss USA's that have had way worse morals like using drugs and having to go to rehap while holding the title to Miss USA or America? I think that's way worse than stating you believe that matrimony should be between a man and a woman! I don't think Perez Hilton should have asked such a racy question knowing either way she answered would have ultimately offended someone? It just happen to be him! I also believe in equality for all and believe she is also entitled to her opinion especially when she was asked of it!!!

Thanks for handeling the situation the best way you can :)

The second I found out about what happened I thought of you.

About all the hard work you did from day one to find a Miss California and then get her on to Miss USA. I know youve put your heart and sweat into making California look incredible.

I heard from my law teacher on how the Miss USA board was diverse and how the Miss USA California representatives were after Miss California answered her question.

I didnt understand the extent of what it really mean to be Miss USA until my teacher explained what Miss USA really does and contributes to all the events she will meet along her way.

Youve done a great job.

I hope you did grand in Vegas with your new line of cosmetics =)

I love what you said... but I think that she was also set up by the question. I think that she didnt know what to say, which is why she stammered a bit before giving her answer. It like a math problem. You forgot what 9x9 equals. So what do you do??? You go back to what you know.... 9x5=45 and so on and so on until your able to figure out that 9x9 is 81. Miss Prejean did just that. Her response was what she knew. I think that she should be supported By everyone.
