Well, Winfield '08 has come and gone and somehow we lived to tell about it. We just got back home hungover, battered, bruised, and grinning from ear to ear. Last nights show on Stage 5 was a time to remember for us. The weather was perfect and the stage was set for a great night of bluegrass in the plains of Kansas. We patiently waited backstage in a setting that looked much the same as it has for decades... A ragged group of bluegrass musicians nervously tuning and re-tuning their instruments anticipating their entrance on to a tiny, picturesque stage built on to the back of a 50 year old pickup truck parked in front of a huge crowd full of well-lubricated festival campers. The smell of beer, smoke, and sweat was as thick in the air as was the excitement.  With walls on three sides of the stage blocking our view, there was no way for us to see just how big the crowd had grown while we waited. The door finally opened and it was time for us to climb the narrow, dimly-lit stairs up to a small stage that has seen the shoes of countless talented bluegrass musicians over the years. The show and the crowd were fantastic!! We gave away the last of several hundred cd's that were printed just for a release at Winfield and were elated at the response from the crowd.
